depends what you call extra work. cutting a hole in piece of wood and bolting it to the door isnt that hard. going all out with fibreglass is.

simple is sticking a set of 4" coaxials up front like stock snd leaving it as is.

If you want spacers, make your own with plywood, a jigsaw and a sander (with the mask to go with it obviously, you don't want to be inhaling ply). That said, I just run 4" speakers in the front via a decent headunit and that keeps me happy.

Original Volvo rear speakers were 4" too - exactly the same as the front, but were mounted in a slightly strange way, and could easily be mistaken for 6x9's.

If you stick them in the parcel shelf it will be easier and cheaper. If you do it right you'll still be able to open and close the flap. You will lose a bit of luggage space, and a big flappy bit of plywood is not acoustically the best place to place a speaker, but who really cares?

I have to agree with jason, I have no complaints with mine, its important to have a descent HU as I changed my speakers first and they sounded crappy.
