Actually Motronic is quite capable system for that old of an engine management if you have the tools.. Motronic has 16x16 fully adjustable both fueling and ignition maps IF you have programmer and proper programs. Only problem is the price of that stuff. :P There are also adapters with which the Motronic can be adjusted while driving. ;)

To me, it's quite true that it's good for its time...but its time is a long time ago, and flappy-paddle meters have been clearly surpassed by hot-wire air *mass* meters.

That's a big if sm56 :D Is even the original Motronic (1.0?) on a 740/760 Turbo 16x16? I know the later versions on 960s, 850s, etc, are very clever....in fact Bosch Motorsport EMS (probably just about the most expensive system there is?) is based heavily on Motronic....but I know very little about the older version...except that it doesn't do well at responding to hardware changes without modification :)

cheers

Yeah 740 turbo in this case. One guy here made a chip for one with Motronic and showed me that info about Motronic. He makes custom chips for Volvos and other cars too. He has a Volvo specialized maintainance/repair shop and they also import cars..

He told me that if I can bring him an intact Renix board he would make me new maps for it. Chipped Renix, that would be something..

It was funny to see how bad most of the general chips for cars really are when you check with programmer/reader what's really changed. Most general chips just mess around with different limiters and remove/raise those without even touching the fueling side or ignition and let the ping detection to handle that..

If he can get through the resin, he's a genius ;) I've wanted to have a play with re-programming mine a few times, but can't break it and leave the electronics intact.
