Oh Doom!! lol

Post by Bazboy » 21 Jul 2008 12:18 am

You gotta love old cars always throwing something new at you, as some of you may know my car failed its mot miserably in june now over the past month and a bit i have been working hard to get her mot ready, now today was meant to be the end of it all, i took her to my mate dave who finished the awesome welding he started last week and then i settled down to do the break hoses and pads. I had just replaced to first hose and went to reposition the car to start the next set, I went to pull the handbrake on and then BANG no more handbrake, At first i thought that it could be a snapped cable, but then realized that the hand brake still worked slightly but very crap lol, is pretty much the loosest thing ever.
I have not had a chance to look it over yet and will do on tuesday, But until then, anyone got any ideas???

Cheers Dan.

Its possible that you have snapped a cable as the levers on the drums tend to seize so it could still be applying some pressure to the shoes?

Cables are available non genuine through motor factors, and pretty easy to replace. Only way is have lever out, clamp in a vice and work until free then lube back up.

I've had this let go before - there's two cables, one to each wheel - you've lost one of them!

Yea brought replacements and put them on but i cannot get the to connect at the center spot above the gearbox, one will go on but then the other just wont reach, plus i now have fumes from the engine bay making them selves evident lol.
