Replacement/ additional speakers - Help please !

Post by nomashedswede » 31 Jul 2008 12:51 pm

Hi all

Looking for some advice/ help - here`s the dilemma ; I have replaced the original radio/cassette with a (cheap !) Blaupunkt CD/radio, and it has really shown up the shortcomings of the original speakers ( front only). I would like to fit some replacements, and upgrade to 4 speakers, at the same time. I have a new set of 5" 3 ways in the garage, and would like to fit then in the rear. They have a mounting depth of 55 mm`s.
I would like to mount them in the C posts, but have a spare back shelf, so could butcher one if that is the way to go. Any advice on which would be better, or if they would even fit the C post, would be most helpful.

At least my parcel self could not take weight of two speakers, it would be good call to install some sort of metal plate to reinforce parcel self if your speakers have any decent weight magnets in them.

C-posts I don't know of, some members have removed their interiors and might remember how much space there is?

Thanks jtbo, although the speakers are only 700g each, I did intend to put some strengthening panel in - to act as a soundboard as much as anything, but many thanks for your input.
Would prefer to mount in the C posts from am aesthetic point of view, but this opinion could change if somebody tells me that the back shelf would be better sonically - I am by no means an audiophile, but would like it to be an improvement over what I have now.

The stock 300 rear speakers fitted in the C posts, the metal in them has a cut out so it's recessed behind the panel that looks removable but isn't ;)

The cut hole is a 6x4" from memory, even though the speakers fitted were only ever 4" rounds.

Thanks Chris - going to have a play this afternoon - would rather go for the C post option, and going on what you say, it should be possible to fit them there.
