If you want to do it on the cheap, just put the worst tyres you can on the back, pump them up to 45psi and wait for rain. Lowering mine helped a lot, but a bucket seat is possibly the best single upgrade for doing skids, as you won't be falling about the cabin.
I only kick it out in the wet really, partly mechanical sympathy and partly because you need SERIOUS commitment in the dry with a 1.4
Welding the diff will make things a lot easier.

I concur. 1.4 dry drifting is mega hard, in the wet slam 45+ psi in and a good boot will get you sideways.

Define drifting, making it lose the back end is not the same as holding it there. So unless its either wet, on 155 tyres or over inflation or a combination of them all then 1.4s dont dry drift with an open diff on tarmac......

Or if you are going slow enough just spinning the inside wheel ;) Big commitment needed.

Should be some diff welding guides around the intertrons I'd imagine, or a search on here, people have certainly posted pics of it

If you really want to weld your diff then you need to weld the spider gears in the middle together, NOT the ring and pinion!. However, you'll need a really high powered welder if you want it to hold for any decent length of time. Also, the gears retain a fair bit of oil which is bad news if you want to get a decent weld without it bubbling up everywhere and putting lots of impurities in. In short, unless you have a decent 180A+ mig and are fairly competant, then I would get someone who knows what they're doing as its pointless making a mess of a perfectly good diff only to learn you aren't able to do it.

it's worth clearing it out completly anyway a nice parrafin bath and a quick check over should see away all the oil as well as letting you know the state of play with the actual gears themself.

sweet ill grab a the diff out of the scrap one near me,
and weld it up myself. and so use one for the road and one for the track/ring
otherwise its wait for the rain, stiffer shocks, lower it, and pump the tyre full of air.

sure there is a guide how to weld diffs on www.trampdrift.co.uk

had mine welded on my 360 and my 340, makes getting the back end out much more predictable . . .

probably wont be able to drift a 1.4 340 that well in the dry, unless its on nice loose ground, but in the wet you should be able to get some sideways action no probs !

go for it matey
