The 300phants graveyard

Post by mac » 24 Sep 2008 11:48 am

Mornin' all,

The bearded old fart is back from his annual pilgrimage to Guernsey.

This year we actually spotted a 340 on the island (rather nice "champagne" 340GL in St Peter Port) - in previous years I'd not seen any 300s at all.

However - this year we decided to take a "day trip" to the neighboring island of Alderney. Now, Alderney, some 23mls. from Guernsey is only 3 1/2 miles long by 1 1/2 miles and has a population of only 2,400 and is absolutely infested with quietly dying 300s!! We spotted at least 7 being driven about (all locally registered) and managed to catch 2 that were stationary long enough to be photographed.

A lurking 340 1.7 (the quaint, ie. bloody rough cobbled roads are typical).

A crumbly, but in regular use 360.

You'll note battle scars and tinworm - but the're all in use!

Alderney has been described as "a crowd of strange people living on a rock" which is unkind - but the living on a rock part is certainly true - and some of the inhabitants certainly are strange (ok I mean the indiginous albino hedgehogs).

I, not having the inclination, nor shape to walk any great distance chose to hire a car for the day and ended up with a (brand new) Fiat Panda - which I must say is quite the most unpleasant and uncomfortable device I have ever had the misfortune to drive (and I've driven a great deal in over 40yrs!!) Now, if the hire company restored an number of 300 and hired them out it might be worth visiting Alderney again!!

I wonder - are any of Alderneys 300philes active here ??? - if so, how many 300s really survive there ?

All the best to everyone,
Mac.

That 1.7 3dr wouldn't survive long over here. Maybe drifting isn't too appealing if you have to do it on cobbles

That might require tad more skill than drifters looking 300-series cars would have, when they get better at drifting 300-series car is perhaps not enough to keep up with them.

Is people described strange because of driving 300-series cars or has they become strange by driving them?

I think strange = good, right?

That blue car looks pretty much like most 300 in here, shiny paint is quite uncommon sight in 300 at Finland.
