Differentials

Just a feeler really,

What do people think about LSD's

The company I work for make parts for racing cars, from A1GP to volvo 240's

I thought an LSD for a 300 might be quite nice, and I have heard a lot of people saying that they are hard to come by?

What is the feeling out there?

I would need spline detail, and an existing housing to see if we can fit our internals inside it.

Just as an example, we did the differential in the Caterham R500 that I am sure a few of you saw on Top gear the other week!

Hard to come by, as in nobody makes an off the shelf kit. apparently quaife will do one for £550, no minimum order. If you can sort one out, and arrange group discount, then you could have a nice little earner for yourself.

I dont have a lot of tech know-how, but didn't the turbo'd 740/760's come with an LSD?

The Ford Scorpio 4x4 I owned had one fitted though it spent more time up on ramps than out on the road :)

that looks like a gripper diff ! .

i think if you make them , make them so that 2/7/900 series owners can use them also .

i can help with some diff dimensions - its a dana 30 in the bigger volvos with a 27 spline shaft .

its a 10 bolt CWP which may fit a ford .

whatever its a limited market , and i dont think youll get lots of people shouting for one at £550 .

I'm sure Fuse has mentioned that the 240 lsd will fit but the diff housing has to ground back a bit for clearance.

Hmm, what sort of price would we be talking? Registering interest, I do a fair bit of grassroots motorsport in mine.

On a separate line, would the company you work for be able to make straight cut boxes? As per Kaos, I can provide a box casing with or without internals and same with diff/casing if it helps.

A 6 speed box would be nice. I find fith to be a little low geared.

I'd certainly be looking for this in a straight cut,, well mentioned. Though maybe just moving 2nd a bit better between the two... and poss dog leg as well if going from scratch. 6th doesn't both me, but then we are never going to all want the same thing ;)

Sorry for the slow response, (no internet at home!)

Unfortunately we don't do gear boxes, so I can't help you out there. :(

With regards to the diffs, our prices are pretty much the same as quaife, but as it would be a new product design and development of it would drive the price up higher

I guess this will have to one of my own projects. If I do manage to produce one I will let you all know of an off the shelf price.

I think that keeping it cheap will be difficult, so your best option for the time being will be the 240 diff and modified housing route.

Sorry for getting your hopes up

Tbh, if it was much cheaper I'd be dubious of the quality. What design do you mainly do (viscous/clutch pack I'm meaning... I don't know proper terms) and what power would it take, and would there be a gaurentee? Theres a chance I'd still be interested, and it is only a chance, but I do need to think about one if I'm going to progress. With the amount of money I've thrown at this car lately it seems silly to think about buying something else with one.

Personally, I dont think i'd ever touch an LSD again.

last time I tried one, I ended up with no clothes on, three quarters of the way up an oak tree, absolutley convinced I was a talking acorn.

bad night that.

:x
