right my 340's engine seemed to have morealess packed itself up and am looking at trying to get a bigger engine that will be more fun, but not to serious on the wallet. my thoughts were a 2l or 2.3 from a 360 or a 2.3 turbo lump from the 740's? sorry if thats wrong. but yea need some advice on how easy they would be to fit into my 340 gle (current engine size 1.7) and anythings i would have to change or do to make it a success so any advice or information people have on this engine swap idea would be greatly received! and it is used as a drift car. if that helps.
many thanks

I'll be the first to say: forget the volvo engines in a 340, you have to change bellhousing, prop, box+diff, engine mounts etc. Far too much work. If you have a 1.7, most renault engines can be persuaded to fit with minimal work. Best are F7P (clio16v, R19 !6v, 1.8 138hp), F7R (clio willams, megane 2.0 150hp), B18ft(?) (volvo 400 series, 8v, 120ish Bhp, potential for loads more).
Hope this helps.

arent most of those engines quite expensive to get hold of? and are they straight forward fittings or will i need to make/get hold of new engine mounts?

They all sit on the same mounts as your 1.7, use the same bellhousing, and require just a mix-n-match clutch, bit of wiring and some water hose messing.
An F7P can be bought for £100, an F7R for under £300, but turbos are rarer though you can buy a whole car for like £200 sometimes.

no need for a mix n match clutch, im running a complete volvo 1.7 clutch with no problems.

Mine's a williams outer plate, I was under the impression that the 1.7 outer wouldn't fit the renner flywheel.

ok so that would seem the most straight forward option. can a turbo be fitted to the f7r and f7p or just the f7r?

nope i got a complete 1.7 clutch kit on renault flywheel no problems yet thats on an F7P mind you.
A turbo can be fitted to both the F7P anf F7R but its a lot of hassle when you can just get the 1.7 volvo turbo engine fromt he 400 series and drop that in and do some rewiring etc.

hmm i dunno quite a few choices i really want something straight forward and cheap, but that pacts a fair amount of power to make drifting more fun and easier to do than the original engine. and stuff that is easy to get hold of

then just weld the diff.
you'll go sideways more easier.
power is money! we all know that hear. just look at adam!

The simplest swap that is direct bolt in the 2ltr 8 valve from a 400. Very easy to do with the only cost being the engine - wont even look and different

kool the 2 litre one sounds good. and i already have my car drift worthy just want more power to make it more fun. its already lowered tighter suspension all round, and welded diff and bucket seat and steering wheel and yea lol. is the 2l from the 400 carb or injection. sorry i dont know too much lol. but i know enough to keep me going

and is it turbo or can be turboed?

is the 1.7 turbo and the 2.0l from the 440's the same fitment? and which would be better suited for drifting?

The 2 ltr is injection but you can fit the 1.7 inlet manifold and carb ok. The 1.7 turbo will fit but you need to make a turbo manifold or modify the existing one to clear. You will have to also wire in all the ecu etc nfor the turbo.

ok cheers and i presume that the 440's and 480's are the same in that the engines from both models will fit directly in to the 340 and does anyone have either of these engines or know someone getting rid of one, and how much they go for. i think i am quite up for doing the turbo and fitting it all sounds like a good project
ok edit change of plan going 1.8 16v as i know some people local who have done it and said its easy and good increase, and have some silly fun mods to do on it. so does anyone have or know someone with one of them and all the bits needed to dump it in my car

will post it up in demand section soon.
