I'd say fit a freer-flowing air filter kit, and a larger bore exhaust + manifolds - but that'll cost money......
The trouble is with the 360's is that they just aint that quick!

The 360 is a heavy car, so I reckon the cheapest way to get it to go quicker is to strip it all out - but if you're doing hillclimbing/rallying you'll be doing that anyway.

Make sure the engine is in tip-top nick aswell! Service it, and if its not been done, change the cambelt ( I once had a cambelt snap on my 1980 cortina at 75mph - talk about scary!)
Though having said that, there's plenty of scrapped 740's and I think most of them should have the B200 engine in, so maybe that wont be a problem!

cheers mate,i know its not excactly going to be a ball of fire but its got plenty torque so hope thats a bonus, yeh its getting stripped out taking the fluffy steering wheel cover off and the tartan throw over of the back seat should save a fair bit ,lol, seriuosly though its over 3 days the event on our little island here in scotland so i needed something tuff and reliable its just been serviced and carb rebuilt by the previous owner so is running spot on,cheers gus

A defender owner?

I spent years fixing fixing those things for the army! Never touched one since :)

I'd say just strip it out, keep to 1st and 2nd gear, and you should be ok. This event sounds like quite alot of fun!

Would highly recommend spending some money on decent tyres too!

Read the regs on what the event allows re interior, is it a one time thing or are you building a car to do it regularly?

Getting a set of cheap wheels with good tyres on is your best bet, I do vaguely well with my 1.7 in similar stuff. Technique and tyres is key, the GLS engine is well suited to this sort of thing as it has low down torque, you won't have to try and keep it in the revband all the time.
