Sills/Jacking points

Right, I'm about to start dealing with mine.

How much of the sill can be chopped out without the body bending/twisting? I know when people remove sills on a lot of cars they brace it first but we've got the chassis rail boxes.

I'm only doing one side at a time, just dubious, and figured cautious is better than not ;)

These are solid as a rock mate both times mine were done no bracing was required, but if the outer sill is good only cut out the rear section to sort out the jacking points.

Thats what I wanted to hear, cheers buddy.

My outer is great, it's a real shame to cut in, but I can tell the inner is knackered, I can poke up the hole in bottom seam and it's rusted through to the wheel arch as well. I've got new ones, and the shape isn't *too* had to fab on the outside by the looks. Plus I've got the kit to cover it as well

I shall show you some pictures of my recently repaired ones, once I get access to a camera (phone was nicked). Just make sure the car's supported on the chassis rails, it'll be a doddle.

Germ, do a course at your local college, they're normally free or £60 or something. I learnt to weld at college, all paid for by mr. Nissan though.

Sorry to hijack mr Chris sir.

The college where im doing my electrical engineering etc is a dedicated unit to that motor stuff, plumbing and brick laying. no disrespect, but i was quite shocked on how my knowlage (yea ok i worked in a garage a little while and helped my dad out most of my life) its right up with if not higher than the guys on thier second year of mechanics etc. had some really great chatage at lunch time, exchanged idea's and what have you. find myself talking to them rather than my sparky peers. :o im lucky that i can do this in the massive unit they have, they even said i could bring my car in and use the ramps etc! :D (impressed the tutors )

I find i have the theory but i lack in the doing. (like engine conversions) rebuilding i can do ish, helped my old man a few times. but none of this matters becouse when im all alone on my own fighting away in the cold and dark, i don't have anyone to check up on what the hell im doing! To make things easyer i got a mate or too round...one snag they don't know the differnce between a spanner and a screwdriver nor do they understand the likes of 1/2" 13mm etc - (just justifying why im talking soo long :P )

as to welding Im on it John Cheeeers!!

And Chris Thanks for all your encouragement!! and Help!! 340pw

hmm yes i was at the pub... sm4

Grey is Bilt-Hamber Etchweld zinc primer, black bits are Bilt-Hamber Hydrate80 rust converter. You can just about see the wood on top of the truck axle stands under the chassis rails where the leaf mounts.
