hey everyone just a few questions, 2 exactly.
first should i be able to hit 30 in first? if not then why am i able too?
second, which seems to have become third since technically that was just two questions, will stalling, not that i have done lately , damage the prop shaft splines?

Do you still have the 1.4 box? That will have the slightly taller 3.64 diff. Been a while since I drove my old 1.4 though, It'd be pushing it pretty hard if it could do it, thats for sure...

30 in first sounds right to me. Just over 6000 rpm

set up right my 1.4 had the following
30 in 1st
65 tops in second
90 in third
125+ in 4th
and that box is now attached to my 16v :D:D:D

Hmm i cant see mine ever hitting those kinda speeds lol Are those the theoretical speeds the box can get too?

Mine admitadely has had no service done or any stuff that i should do, yet it still runs well, but it is screaming it's hearty out in 5th at 110/115mph and if you do this for a prolonged period of time it smells of burning plastic/rubber, so not good lol.
I am under tyred tho so that probably doesn't help, but 125mph in 4th, you sure?

I've always found the 1.4's to top out at an indicated 115 - just under 120 (actualy about 105 real speed) - the 1.7 will go a bit more

Arent i right in thinking you have a 3.82 final drive kaos? If so unless your 1.4 revs to 7.5k that speed is not possible in fourth....
Mine does 120MPH (GPS) in 4th on the limiter.

nope 3.64 all the way. age of the car and everything confrimed all with my ex volvo breaker garage as he has all the dif drive units in hsi volvo books for the 300 series. hence i know where diffs can be swaped out. like the m47 of 91 IIRC has the 3.64 diff340GLT wrote:Arent i right in thinking you have a 3.82 final drive kaos? with regards to the 125 yall, its a 2 mile stretch of straight road flat out you gear change at the right spot and you go fast heck my 2.1 renault shit box of a trafic van hits 100 on that straight i know the speedo was out but sat nav was high so it was of the scale on the dash, who cares now i cant prove it anymore as i dont have the engine, plus the car did it once and that was it probably a nice big tail wind
