Cooling fan
Cooling fan
hello all!
project 360 begins! much to parents distaste!
im going to start by getting it tidied and tightened up. so looking for a cooling fan kit, or something that can be used. the viscous unit has probably died so going to be replaced. do any kits of 2/7/9s etc fit?
i have a unit for a 340 but probably too small, and tight to fit in front on the engine.
any advice ideas etc?
might start a project thread when things get going.
ie when ive got the land rover back on the road so i can take the Volvo off!
currently watching a few units on the bay of e. anyone got the dimensions of the space i have to work with? best from or back of the rad (suck/blow depending (O dear))

Re: Cooling fan
apologies if this is a daft question i've had a search on the forum and found a post from a while ago, some one fit rover 400 fans in front of the rad. but the hella grille wouldn't fit. I know there is a minor performance increase with these and an increase in efficiency which is more what im after. i fitted one on the land rover and there was a noticeable increase in 'speed' (for lack of better words' but it was quieter and sounded less like a plane!

Re: Cooling fan
Most of the modern Pugs run twin electric fans-quite a thin profile too.By dumping the viscous fan you'll release upto 2 rampant horses which can be put to better use
Aside-Stihl 020AV-any good-say it's so, just won one on the blag.

Re: Cooling fan
the 020av is a top handle saw so good for use up trees, might not be so good on the ground to log things up, but ive never used one before! just had a quick flick through forums and people seem to like them!

Aye she's for the Climb Benny boy.
Stihl up Husky down That's how the Sven will be workin' it
Binned that viscous monstrosity yet????
We used to run the rally car without a fan Nov-March-no need during those chilly Northern nights

not as yet no, im still looking for any doner fans i can use. need to get the landog (knackered overdrive linkage and MOT 5th march ) back on the road before i start to take the 360 apart yet!
id lov eto be able to afford a proper kenlowe kit but they cost to much! im looking on the bay of e for any second hand ones that might be of use.
what's the best size? obviously bigger is better (giggty giggty) the rad is somthing like 16" down, 22 across from what i can make out with everything in place.
would 2x 10s be sufficient?

Re: Cooling fan
Got any breakers yards nearby-good.
Got a tape measure-good.
Well BB we're good to go.Find a suitable motor with leccy fan-measure scratch head-move to next possible donor vehicle-repeat etc.etc............
See the bit where it says Pugs run twin fans-that's the clue
Don't get all obsessive about size-that's for lasses-it's not so much the size as the force behind it-boom,boom
You may have to take a note pad with you as your brain may not be as large as mine.Look at this way you're still on dial up,me, I'm 30 meg broadband.
In fact I've such a massive brain I have been likened to a Tefal Boffin.Which isn't exactly a compliment.
Good luck with your search-report back your findings please-save me tramping round scruffy breaker 's yards

Re: Cooling fan
well its properly started now! runs out of tax at midnight!
managed to get the viscous unit off, the cowling and the grill to see the space i had to play with. i also had an MR2 fan from somewhere thats so close to fitting its unreal. the MR2 fan is 2x12" fans next to eachother.
what ill probably end up doing is taking the wkenlow off the landrover and putting it on the volvo, then putting teh MR2 set on the landrover.
thanks - Ben

Re: Cooling fan
attempted to remover the bumper today to get better access to the radiator and the gap there - and it looks like the far LH bolt and threaded hole (captive nut?) has been shoved up at some point, probably supporting my theory that its had a front end bash. so i cant get a socket on it. all the rest of them have come undone alright. just that one! any ideas? is it possible to remover the grey to get better access?
Ben
edit - got it of and it has definatly had a bit of a bump at some point. the shelf under the radiator has a kink in it, and the driver side bumper mount has a good kink in it.
MR2 fans wont fit with the hella grille on, so going to swap the kenlow off the landog.
