Check out my hot new ICE

Post by trabitom99 » 18 Apr 2009 01:57 pm

After 9 years of twiddling knobs to look for my radio stations, I've decided it's time to move on. Check out my new radio :-)

Automatic station search! 6 Radio presets! Modern technology, here I come ... The old one, may it rest in peace, is the one on top of the dashboard.

Itll be a digital dash clock next Tom.
Then a digital cigarette lighter.

where does it all end?
When where being force-fed our dinners in pill-form by silver suited flying robot monkeybutlers!?

I fear the future. And change.

Nice stereo though. :D

Nice one!

Just a question - weren't the standard head units in Volvo's always Clarion? They always seemed to be of better quality and sound than the standard fit units i've had in other cars (And that includes my old 1992 RangeRover Vogue, for the price of that when new, the stereo and speakers were CRAP! )

Maybe CR-xxx stands for Clarion? Dunno ...

Definitely work of the devil though, after ½ hours' worth of playing the FM reception disappears :-( Had to listen to MW and LW channels all weekend. "this is ... feeep ... the BBC world service ... crackle"

Maybe I'm not cut out for all this new-fangled technology ...

FM seems to have stopped working most of the time on my 340. But I like the retroness of listening to MW anyway ;)

Banged a brand new JVC CD/MP3 player in mine. Doesn't fit correctly but the trim makes it look like it does. Sunk nicely into the dash, even has a remote control lol. Makes the stock speakers actually sound good!

Unfortunatly the timeless classic radio didn't go back together as I'd planned (nothing electronic ever fits back together the same way). Plus I lost one of the plastic knobs :( So much for selling it on, I'll stick a picture up anyway to see if anyone on here wants it...

"MP3 player" is the important bit. Personally I'd rather have a tape deck than a non-MP3 or non-USB CD player in mine, at least that way I can connect my MP3 player to the thing - who needs CDs in cars these days?

Yeah go on, you might as well ... ;-) My "new" period radio / cassette in the above pic is rubbish, sold as "in fully working order" on UK Ebay but it's not.

Have now bought another:

back to twiddly knobs but at least it's got station presets and auto reverse!

... but it's taking ages to get to me. Maybe I should just bung the old one back in.

Can you still get MW stations in the UK? Here, there's not much, just a traffic jam warning station ...

if youve got an ipod mp3 player Tom, just get one of these.
Transmits your music direct to any FM radio.

Press play, scan your radio, find signal, enjoy.

I've had one of those for a few years now, maybe they've got better now but mine is pretty crap ... The signal was so weak the radios I tested it on kept switching over to to mono ...

what a crease. I put my foot down today for a larf outside work and my radio came out of the hole! (Haven't finished installing it properly). Then my sub rolled over in the boot and nothing works now. Brilliant!
