New ICE

Post by Speedy88 » 06 May 2009 03:30 pm

This is probably a stupid question but I'm an "under the bonnet" person so I've never done this before.

Basically I want to fit some new speakers (possibly JVC?) in my 340. Not sure what size they need to be? Could anyone recommend some good door and back speakers to fit in the original speaker places?

Agreed, just make it go quicker, thats the only noise you really need.

However if you do want to put new speakers in, the front covers simply pop off, so whip one off, measure the speaker, and go down to Halfords or similar with your measurements.

As for rears i don't know, mine hasn't got any?

Ok I've got a flashy JVC CD player to put in but I've noticed the plugs at the back of the radio are pretty old school. Is there a wiring loom converter that I can put straight in instead of cutting the original cables? If not, is there a diagram about to put the right wires together? I've heard haynes is pretty useless.

On another note i may have a near perfect period radio if someone wants to buy it?

Tape/radio from a 340. Are there different types?

Thinking about the plug behind the radio, if I knew what the connection was called I could search for an adaptor.

I guess something like this http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0382903062 would do the trick ...
This ISO adaptor lead is specially designed to fit the following car(s);
* Volvo 240 (August 1974 - September 1990)
* Volvo 340 (May 1987 - December 1991)
* Volvo 360 (May 1987 - December 1991)

I've got a modern Kenwood head unit in mine running the stock crappy door speakers.

I couldn't find an adaptor, but only tried Halfords. So i just bought a swelection of different size flat blade type electrical connectors (male/female) and wired it in myself using them at each end on a 3" bit of wire so it's still easily removable.

As long as you have the instruction manual to know what wire does what it's pretty easy. I HATE electrics and still had it done in half an hour.

Excellent, cheers guys. It doesn't look like ANY of those radios, it looks older. I'll take a picture and whack it up (in due time tho, i had to take the front off to get it out, currently looks mangled. Dismantled it perfectly tho :D
