k&n bolt on filter

Post by littlered » 15 May 2009 12:53 pm

my bolt on filter is lifting off the carb lip!
i seated it corectly on a light bed of silicon,it seems doing the clamp up is what is bouncing it off!
any ideas?
would it be safe if i siliconed it on heavily without the clamp,is there enough heat there to afect it do you think?

i had this problem, so just didn't tighten the hose clip up as much cause when you do it seems to pull it up the carb untill it comes off, i dont even use silicon + have never had any probs

exellent, that waswhat i was hoping to hear!
i used silicon because id heard that there was a possibility of air leaks.
i will use the silicon again as it really does seat it nice, what did you do about your crank breather pipe?
just noticed it and am thinking of putting a mini filter on it.

the clamp seems to do nothing other than force the bottom off the lip!
as the engine does move a fair bit on acceleration,do you think silicon will hold up?
as it doesnt feel that amazingly tight a fit without!
will silicon hold up to the temperatures under the bonnet,as im worried about shake off,or melting?

to start off with i just put a bit of sponge on the breather pipe but since ive got a mini filter from halfords

my filters pretty lose, lose enough that you could lift it straight off the carb with enough force + ive never had it fall off even under hard acceleration which is the only way i ever accelerate in the volvo lol, jus give it a try im sure u'l notice if it falls off

I never had much luck with these it wanted to come off all the time, so i made a steel box that the filter fitted inside of but retained the volvo heat flap device so avoided carb freezing, i think i still have the box somewhere...

The one i have is modified from a another car so it bolts straight on like the original, and for the breather pipe just grab a cheap mini filter thing, i forget the name, its not expensive tho.
