pull it straight off.
its just on splines.
so dont try and twist it.

I managed to pull mine off when going for second racing a new Golf Gti, proper peed off as in 1st i was doing him, changed gear knob managed to remove itself from the stick and land on the passenger seat, leaving me between gears.

Hell i bet i looked cool

is it custom or off the shelf?

you might be a able to drill it out to a tight fit.
or if its a plastic sleeve type, just force it on.

my pool ball knob was drilled a couple of mill loose, then i just put a loop of card in the hole shalf to make it a supersnug solid fit.

Or drill and tap it and use a grub screw?

It's only nature-all.

Yeah my second is getting pretty ropey, so it hit the (what felt like the shifter) gate, or it's just out of alignment, and it kind of just flew out of my hand :?

They normally come with a few different diametered plastic sleeves for multi fitting. I'm sure one'll be near enough to file out.
Or file out the bore on the knob itself.

Ha!
I said knob.

Pikey it in true TD style. Wrap insulation tape around the gear lever and ram it on lol
