Have to question why... if you're going to the effort of going front conventional mounted gearbox and a standard rear axle you'd be better off going for a Volvo turbo redblock engine and M90 gearbox for lots of power!

If you're not after huge power the Renault 16v units offer great scope upto about 200bhp and bolt right in!

Not much point going for a zetec as it won't make that much power and would be a lot of work to do. As to uk ford rear axles they are well known as quite weak units.

Rear axle wise somthing like a vovlo 240 axle or a US Ford 9 inch axle would be the one for the job.

Good engines to go for would be renault 1.8/2.016valve or volvo 740 2.3 16v for na fun. Turbo engines the volvo 7/900 turbo lumps are quite straight forward to fit or for something differnt how about the saab turbo engine?

would the 1.8 - 2.0 16v engine bolt stright in? what gearbox and diff would you use? i only thought of the zetec cause its something diffrent in a volvo. i just want something fast and that dont keep breaking down like my 340.
