New owner, a few questions...
New owner, a few questions...
Hi! Yesterday I collected a 1.4 343DL. I had not heard of these before, but have been informed (by Google :p) that they are just an early version of the 340...?
I wish to know what differences there are between the 343 and the 340.
Also, I am in need of a new starter motor, would one from a 340 fit?
Thanks!

Re: New owner, a few questions...
Hello, and welcome When was your car built? The changeover from 343 to 340 was around 1982 - the biggest change then was that the car got a redesigned dash. Starter motors changed over the years too ...

Re: New owner, a few questions...
fitting an old starter motor onto a new engine won't work; on older engines (b14.0/.1/.2) the starter motor solonoid is placed directly above the motor itself; this would come into trouble with the exhaust manifold on a b14.3 or 4.Om7 wrote:Also, I am in need of a new starter motor, would one from a 340 fit?
Thanks!
however, fitting a new starter motor (b14.3 or 4) to a 343 engine will work since the exhaust manifold exit is at the front of the car, from wich the pipe makes a deep bend down to the rear.
in short; as long as that 340 has a 1.4 it will fit
Re: New owner, a few questions...
It is a 1981. I also read I can use a starter from a Renault 5? Not sure on which model of 5 either.
I don't have many pics yet, here's one 5 minutes after I got it home and stuck some wheels on. :
edit;
@volvodspec: Unfortunately I didn't understand that as I do not know any of the codes yet. Basically if I get a 1.4 starter I can use it? Sounds good!
Cheers!

I wasn't sure they would work until I stuck them on, looks a lot better than I expected! Want some wide white steelies on it in the end though as I have borrowed the Mims off my E30.

Sits well on those wheels. Toatally.
Not feeling the black vallance though.
Looks like a nice 3 door though mate, and a propper retro colour too.

I love the colour, and the brown interior. Going to have a brown or cream flocked dash in it too.
It seems someone has either tried to hide rust, or it has had lots of repair work because of rust all the way around the bottom, everything has been painted in black, it even goes into the door sills.

Always thought the same! Perfect width and offset. Looks great, that car's been for sale a few times in the last 6 months - hopefully it will now get some good attention340GLT wrote:I knew Mims would work on a 300.

Re: New owner, a few questions...
I am not too surprised, it's a little run down. Currently needs a new starter, new clutch, the indicators don't work, the brakes are almost useless etc etc...
Bodywork is mint for it's age though. haha.

Got a starter if you want for a B14, came off an '82 and was refurbished not long before it came off my Dad's old car. Been sitting for a while but can't see why it wont still be fine

Cheers Mark.
