anti-tramp bars

hi all, i noticed today that on the rear axel there is an anti-tramp type bar on the o/s only looking at the other side and seeing no brackets i guess this is normal? i wud like a proper set-up with bars either side, is there a kit available? second to that im looking at the kits for escorts which may b able to b made to fit or using fiesta panhard rods, shortened, with homemade brackets. any1 done anything like this?

edited to add: ive seen the 4 link kit some one is fitting but didnt quite want to go that far

Yes, it's normal :(

You can notice the lack of NS tramp bar in the wet :( I keep meaning to getting round to taking one off a scrapper and making up some brackets tbh, I can't see why it was left off in the first place.

Why do you say that? Anti-tramp is for rotation of the axle, how would this be any different in the wet, you get more grip in the dry.

I do think that it causes the axle to bend in a non-uniform way causing toe-in more on the the left hand side. When this is bad, it feels very unsteady in the wet when you go through puddles as the alternate wheels grip.

It's far more noticeable in the wet, in the dry the 360's I've owned just grip and launch but in the wet it's the wheelspin and maybe gaining grip/losing grip/gaining grip that highlights the axle tramp, and yes - with good tyres too! Ali following me at the Stondon meet (we know how much it rained) noticed the back of my car bouncing around a couple of times :lol:

mine just seams to spin the o/s wheel in the dry or wet just as easily :lol:

so do u think 2 bars wud make a difference anyway? ive havnt realy noticed too much, this is my first rwd car and ive only had it a month or so. what wud u say the best mounting points wud b for the arms? above the axel then leading down as close the the leaf spring front mount as possible? or do u think mimicing the std one on the n/s will do just as well?

I'd just go with another the same as the stock one. That should get the job done. You'll still get a bit of spring wind up but not as much.

The symptoms are as Steve said for me, when I've been on *good* tyres, not just standard stuff, from a launch in wet the things try to grip, then you get the springs winding up, and it turns into the rear winding up and releasing, I guess in the dry it just winds up, and doesn't instantly release? Not put a huge amount of thought into it.

What ends up happening is the rear NS ends up thumping the ground as it grips and releases over and again, whilst winding and unwinding.

My point is that it can't rotate more on the left than on the right, the axle is solid! The anti-tramp may take up some of the in-line forces on the RHS and the wheel stays more in position under power. This why I don't think is axle tramp that is the problem, simply just general rigidity, and perhaps some difference in wheel angles due to uneven forces bending the axle over time. replacing bushes in the springs and maybe even the springs, aswell as straightening the axle will help this. I can remember that new 360s had no such problems.

Other things such as looseness in the drive train/diff bushes etc may also not help.
