Crap deflector
Crap deflector
Hum, I've noticed all that lovely crap that goes in through my grille in liquid form is deflecting up and splattering all my nice polished engine. I've been thinking about putting in a nice bodge "crap deflector" which would sit somewhere between the top front of the head and the top of the radiator. I'd take it off in the summer, it's just for salt, rain and snow whilst it's around. Then I began to think about air flow, would this cause me overheating problems? The main block will still be getting cooling breezes and splatter, that's less visible. I'm not sure, how much air flow does the engine need? Would a plate at the top cause me problems? This is JUST so I don't have to clean it
Re: Crap deflector
consider as such ducting the flow to the centre like so ( this is going to be bad explaining
4 sided triangle and then cut the tip of near the base so you have 4 inward slanting sides like : \ to direct the flow to the centre i'll draw it if needs be:D

Re: Crap deflector
I think I know what you mean, but what would be the purpose of directing the air in this way? Surely it would just flow around it if it was a rectangle?
Re: Crap deflector
What's a 4 sided triangle?

either i read it wrong or... thought you wanted to stop the crap getting in to the engine bay as it sometimes go round the rad. hence the slants direct it centrally instead of ducting it round the side.
Re: Crap deflector
Oh right, got it. No I was thinking of putting in a horizontal plate between the front of the engine (like the top corner, on the plate that covers the cams) and the rad. The crap comes through the radiator but I can't block that because the air needs to flow freely.
