340 wont idle without gas?

my 340 has just had oil change and new filters etc for mot was checking engine running and while reving it cut out with a lil clunk now it wont idle without gas replaced carb gaskets and checked for air leaks....nothing... removed, checked and cleaned idle solenoid...seems fine moves freely ....any ideas

probably the idle solenoid, have you cleaned its nozzle and the channel into the carb?
voltage on the blue/red wire?
hear it click when you tap the wire to the solenoid?

its not the solenoid....have checked that today...its functioning fine.....any other thoughts??/

yeah but is the channel in the carb clean? (remove solenoid and blow trough it with an air compressor)

you can also blow through the emulsion pipes at the top of the carb, could be a bit of dirt in the main yet

is clean as far as i know...havent tried blowing them through.....would that stop it from idling without gas??

jep, solenoid can work fine but if the channel of it going to below the butterfly of 1st barrel is blocked; or the petrol doesn't reach the solenoid you won't have idle without selfapplied throttle

ok cheers will check on that tomorrow ....if it turns out not to be that any other possibilities in mind? .......think the carb wants a rebuild anyway it seems to leak fuel when gas pedal is pumped........do you happen to know where to get a refurb kit for the weber 32 dir 109??

fuel leaking out if pedal is pumped; mostlikely accelerator membrame. this is the membrame that has 4srews and is placed next to the idle solenoid.

ok found somthing new....when i have the engine running and remove the plug leads one at a time there is no effect on the running exept for one of the leads which when removed from plug causes stall.........whats this mean??

means it's running on 3 cyl, do you get a good spark at that cylinder?

if you get a good spark there; best thing to do next is a compression test

took plugs out....covered in fuel......think was set too rich....cleaned em up and adjusted mix.....runs better now ......still leaking fuel at carb tho and cant seem to find a refurb kit anywhere :S ...how you do a compression test?

i have recently done a rebuild on my carb i cant remeember the place off the top of my head but il find out and post tomorrow. the thing is thought its not a specific 300 kit its just a unversal one to fit the renault but it works as good as the old one and best of all its not that far from sheffield
