Will this fit my '84 360... ?
Hey again everyone,
I've been looking for this for ages (because I saw a photo of it in the Haynes manual for my 360, which covers all 340/360 models and all years). It's basically a surrounding faceplate for the stereo. Mine does not have this, but has this crappy piece of wood painted black to fill in.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FP-10-00-Vol ... 2a144355ea
This listing says it's made for '87-'91 models, but I'm just wondering do you reckon it would fit an '84 model? Does anyone with an '84 model have one of these things?
Thanks

Are the measurements for the stereo area much different between the two models?

There are two size of radio hole used in the 300 series.
Up to and including MY82, the radio hole is an oversized hole that fits radios from the low-mount 200 series. Two fascia plates for aftermarket radios are used. One is for the old DIN "D" / two spindle radios of yesteryear and one for the DIN "E" (ISO 7736 / DIN 75490) / 180mm x 50mm hole.
From MY83 onwards, the radio hole is also oversized but is rectangular with sharp corners. This type of hole fits radios from the 700 series with the sloping front. I've seen two sorts of fascia plates for these. Both DIN "E", but of different styles. One is just a flat piece of plastic with a smaller hole in the middle, the other has a bulge top and bottom, so the radio sits more flush in the dash.
Slopey-front radios

and the fascia adaptor:

So in short that fascia adaptor you have linked to fits '83 to '91.

Re: Will this fit my '84 360... ?
It will fit? Thank god! Thats awesome, thanks for your help.
so you mean the old "slopy-front" fascia plate allows the sloped sides to be visible, but the new fascia plate hides this so that it looks rectangular? If you get me... ? Haha...
Also, just wondering how hard it would be to install this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Security-Car ... 5d3b8caea9
Its a car alarm/keyless entry system. My 360GLT does have central locking, but only when you use the keys to unlock the driver's door. Would this be relatively easy to install and hook-up to the existing central locking? Is the current central locking battery operated? Thanks...

Just to add a little info,
When the centre console was redesigned (83 yr.mod.on) it was with a radio slot quintessentially Volvo ie. NOT DIN. This allowed 700/900 series radios to be fitted (aprox 1 1/2 Din) with the sloping fronts. Generally speaking any Volvo radio could be fitted by using the appropriate fascia plate (eg. Most units had the option of accessory fascia to allow a 200/early 300 unit to fit a 700/900/late 300 and vice versa. An accessory facia allows even later "single" DIN E from say a S40 to fit earlier cars (my Redline runs a CR905 using the correct Volvo facia kit (part no.1384582). Note the Volvo fascias are actually attached to the base radios by set screws.
From about 87 yr.models Volvo started fitting Single DIn (Din E) units made by Phillips (other Volvo radios are Mitsubishi) and these required the change of fascia - the Volvo ones have the rounded mouldings top and bottom - the "flat" ones are aftermarket. These "convert" the slot to single DIN size (any such sized unit should be a push fit).
As for your proposed change to remote C/L - on the 300 the drivers door has no motor - only a switch to control the other door or doors (you cannot get C/L on the boot/hatch without considerable work). You will need a remote or alarm/remote kit which includes a motor to fit to the drivers door (usually rigged to operate in the internal lock button rod) this then triggers the std.motors to allow remote control. You should be able to get either a remote kit which includes a motor, or a kit designed to add a motor too (motors are available quite cheaply - at least in the UK.

Just to add a few pics to illustrate the Mac little info.
The MY83> hole:

A sloping front Volvo radio:

An aftermarket DIN E fascia adaptor:

A Volvo? DIN E fascia adpator:

Now can anyone fill me in with what the deal is with the speaker in front of the gear lever in the third pic?

Alarm's aren't exactly for everyone to install. if you find one with coloured wire's its a lot easier though. you usually need an instruction manual which isn't included with the alarm. only licensed installer's are given them usually.

Yeah it looks like one of those speakers you get with a in-car hands-free kit now you mention it. Either that or it's CB-tastic!mac wrote:Oo-er, looks like a modified cassette holder.

And the only one that looks any good is the Volvo sloping front radio (but then I am a purist)

I though this was your preference?

Re: Will this fit my '84 360... ?
Ah well yes, obviously that's the ultimate in purity! But if one has to have a radio, then sloping front is my choice in 83- models.

@Sion
Now, having looked closer, the speaker that caught my eye was a Motorola SSN4020A, which is part of the Motorola HF850 car kit, all shoved in a gutted cassette holder:

I feel like I'm going to be proved wrong here, as any post that starts with pointing out what I think is a Mac error is never going to end well
Correct, but to fit the cage that most DIN units require into a Volvo facia (the "rounded" ones) need around 1mm removed. I've had to do that on Kar and Fake, but do think the Volvo one looks a lot better than the "flat" ones for itmac wrote:From about 87 yr.models Volvo started fitting Single DIn (Din E) units made by Phillips (other Volvo radios are Mitsubishi) and these required the change of fascia - the Volvo ones have the rounded mouldings top and bottom - the "flat" ones are aftermarket. Not true, all post 87 (I can't remember the ones previous) I've broken that have had central locking have had a motor in the drivers door, it's the same unit as the switch. Standard 300 motors (in the other 3 doors) have a single (brown?) plug, driver door unit is the same moulding, but has a second (white? colours are hazy) plug that is the switch. The "motor" plug is present but not wired up. When I installed an alarm in Kar, I just wired that and all was good.mac wrote:As for your proposed change to remote C/L - on the 300 the drivers door has no motor - only a switch to control the other door or doors (you cannot get C/L on the boot/hatch without considerable work).
