Rustproofing Treatment

Post by mac » 18 Oct 2006 01:53 pm

As promised - the factory treatment charts (it's aimed at factory fluids and application equipment but you'll get the idea).

Suggest we use this thread for info on rustproofing and treatments that members have used/recommend etc.

Great thanks Mac!

One idiot question... when spraying green/red fluid, it shows a lot of areas that look to be on the outside (example, p11, top left with the front wing diagram) Now, it says spray after the top coat... but surely the rust proofing stuff will be visible over the top coat? I've never seen the stuff, but I'm expecting a slightly less thick version of the Waxoyl underseal black goo in a tin I have here.

Hi Chris, - good point - I think we have Swinglish/Nederglish operating here.
In fact the charts should be taken in context with relevant course at the Volvo training centre. The rustproofing areas are largely 'hidden' and don't involve the exterior of painted panels.

That having been said - after manufacture all cars were indeed sprayed with a clear wax like compound all over (for shipping) - which was a devil to get off at the import centre. The charts seem to be a mixture of production treatment and in service proceedures. (but they give us an idea though).

Mac.
