The congestion charge in London is scary - all those cameras everywhere and the "you have until this evening to pay, or else" nonsense.
Yeah it can appear that way. But I don't expect german numberplates will work with our ANPR systems. Solution : Next time you're in London, bring your 343
ANPR works here on the Dublin M50 barrier-free toll. Picks up even my old numbers. Never got bills (when I was awaiting reregistration) on UK plates However, they do try their hand, so don't try it on a UK rental car as the rental company will roll over and pay, then charge you, even when the don't really have a leg to stand on legally chasing stuff cross border. I suspect the same with the London CC as they'll fire off threatening letters to the registered keeper wherever they are, in the hope of frightening a person into paying.
You can enter an Umweltzone with your classic as long as it corresponds with what Germany sees as a classic car, ie the H-plate rules apply here. If your car is in a reasonable and original state and 30 years or older, you are free to enter (and park). All the sticker nonsense rules apply too, which means that only B200F-equipped 300 series can get the green sticker. I do know that der Franzose (Germany's biggest mail order parts service for 'French crap') supplies catalysts in order to obtain a green sticker for your 2CV or R4. Something to look into?

Bugger! Is that true, that the ANPR on the M50 doesn't work with Uk plates? I've just done the decent thing and paid my €3 via t'internet when I got home and now it looks like I could have got away with it. What I really object to is the €1.80 tolls on pretty much all the motorways with the toll booths cunningly located between two junctions where there is no viable N road alternative so they've got you unless you're prepared to take a long circuitous detour. What rankles even more is that I've already paid for the bloody roads via the EU subsidies that Eire got to upgrade their network!!
Terms and conditions apply. This post may go down as well as up. Regulated by the Financial Services Authority. Hard hats to be worn. No reversing without a banksman. No admittance to unauthorized persons. Stop that. Put that down. Leave that alone.

It does work, they'll send you a letter. Safe to ignore though as they can't really chase you for monies cross-border. You should see what the outstanding total for NI registered vehicles is
I never got letters despite going through about 5 returns. You would think they'd check the defunct UK registration against there own national database, as the former registration mark appears on the Irish docs. It doesn't always scan either, I've been picked one way on old-school Irish plates (forgot to pay), but not the other direction...
I must stress do have three electronic tags and 99.99% of the time pay my tolls.
... and I've taken it off the road again. Just a quite note to myself for when I resurrect it again next year:
check why the the blower fan sometimes works / sometimes doesn't on 1 & 2 (3 always goes)
replace windscreen washer pump
replace clock
fit a radio!! Argh - mega-boredom on the Autobahn
send the previous owner a pic - I've been meaning to do this for months
Cheers
Tom
PS does anyone know if the DLS / GLS cluster clock is the same as on the "standard" Smiths cluster?
The clock might have a Smiths number on it. It may be the same, if it isn't the same face, the backend might be the same. Let me get home and check the pics of it.
Radio - find youself a MTS (or at least one with a V200 fascia) , hide an iplod socket, etc.
Which reminds me, I still need to do work on my 4 Microprocessor...
Cheers, I would guess they are the same, but with the condition that a MY82 Smiths dash is not used, as it has a different clock to the MY79-81. The MY82 clock has the adjuster on the front between 4 and 5 o'clock.

The first one was used from MY81-83 on all versions with the B14 engine, L (without the clock), DL and GL.
There is an earlier version of this set (as offered in the dutch advert), used for MY79-81, where one has to adjust the time under the dash instead of turning the knob in the lower RH corner of the clock.
The second one was used between MY81 and 83 on all versions with the B19 engine, DLS and GLS.
Life is a journey, so sit back and enjoy the ride!
Born Built Beauties: Parts keeping our cars on the road!
1) Between the two instrument panels in the Dutch advert, are the clock modules the same? (e.g. are all "adjust from the rear" clocks equal?)
2) For the B19 DLS/GLS, did they do a speedometer module in MPH?
