Right, got the exhaust off after much cursing and bleeding of knuckles, then set about getting out the torque tube. Trying to do this with the back end up on jackstands and the front just sitting on the lowered suspension was not the best way to go about it but I got there in the end. Managed to wedge my head a few times though.
I went to the replacement torque tube to check for differences and noticed there is no play in the quill in the replacement but play in both ends of the origional one, then noticed the splines at the front of the replacement are a bit chewed up. Probably ok for the B19a but not a hope of lasting when I put the B230 in her.
I set about taking out the quill from the one with the bad bearings, tapped it up with a bit of 2x4 and a lump hammer until it reached the rear bearing then used a bit of threaded bar to knock it through. I could then pull it out easily from the front. Did the same with the replacement, much, much harder to remove, there was no way it was pulling out after clearing the rear bearing so I extended my threaded bar and carried on tapping.
This would only reach as far as the center bearing but then it was a bit easier to pull out, note to anyone trying this, do not as I did, jamb the torque tube against a bit of concrete and pull with your legs open. You will get a blow in the crotch to remember when it comes free!
So, after much rolling around like a certain Netherlands player we shall not name and much cursing, I have two tubes seperated from 2 quills. This picture is from before the 2nd one was removed.
Now I can look inside I have identified the bearings as INA bearing 6005z. These are about 4 quid each. They are pressed into the bearing housing which interestingly has an INA number on it I have not been able to find online. YZA F-58114, there is also a plastic insert that reduces the bearing inner diameter from 25mm to 20mm. I will be pulling these assemblies out next weekend to replace the bearings and inspect the sleeves for wear.
