Anyone know if the bushing for the little damper at the front of the b19a is still available? The damper is sound but the bush at the top is long dead.
Had a better look at the engine mounts today, they are going to have to come out as they are sagging, I have a tube of silkaflex and I'm going to try filling the bottom cavities with it and letting it cure, have heard it can do wonders.
Ordering some of this http://www.cleancar.ie/bilt-hamber-deox-gel.html
and some of this http://www.cleancar.ie/bilt-hamber-epoxy-mastic.html
Having checked over the panels and chassis it is all looking very tidy, a few spots of surface rust and a few deeper bits where the subframe mounts hold water. Will sand, treat and use the 2 part epoxy to underseal. Just the front for now, most of the car is pretty well sealed anyway.
I am looking for a few bits if anyone can help. An undertray/splash shield. It is the middle sized one, cant remember how they fit but it is not the long one that goes the width of the car and of the other two it is the largest.
Also looking for a chrome hockey stick trim, the one that runs up the A pillar and right back across the roof guttering, drivers side.
Have a set of 4 KYB shocks if anyone wants to make an offer, front never fitted, rear fitted and covered about 1 mile before removal.

Best bet for the damper bush is to look through the universal range from Superflex. You'll almost certainly find something to suit.

There's an "offer" section for this.Number 47 wrote:Have a set of 4 KYB shocks if anyone wants to make an offer, front never fitted, rear fitted and covered about 1 mile before removal.

Also, put a figure down (see above)

Re: Hello. (New member) I brought pics!
Oops, sorry. Was just rambling really, will post in the appropriate place.
Recieved my dampers today and brake discs so I can get on with reassembly. Found a place in Town that is bead blasting subframe, crossmember and 2 radial arm mounts for €40. Will have them back on wednesday and I will give them a quick coat of zinc undercoat to protect them until I find a supply of epoxy mastic or similar, the one I linked was out of stock and won't restock for another month. Meh!
My steering rack, regreased, new tie rods and track rod ends and a lick of paint. One of the tie rods had a very bad inner ball joint so glad I didn't just leave it.

Off to reassemble the struts. Finally!

So, the sandblasting was useless. Seems they were using a conveyor system and it reached all the parts I could reach myself and none of the parts I wanted cleaned. Still paint on some areas.
Also, there is a hole blown in my crossmember, there is a suspicious gouge in the metal right next to the hole, I'm assuming it caught on something and was overexposed as the rust wasn't bad enough for that.
pretty annoyed but today I took delivery of 4kg of deox c and 1kg deox gel. Time to set up a bath....

Re: Hello. (New member) I brought pics!
Hmm, need some advice here guys. I somehow managed to find a b230et when I was raking through the local buy and sell. I wasn't looking for anything in particular and it jumped out of the page at me. B230et nr121 out of a 1989 740. I phoned the guy who happens to live a few miles from me, (about 2 miles) and was expecting a bare lump. This is a complete engine with ECUs, complete loom, intercooler, pipes, gearbox and exhaust. It came out of a family car (never raced etc) and has been wrapped in plastic in a shed for a while. It is cheap enough that I am willing to take a punt on it and am thinking to drive the car on the B19a while working on refurbing the B230 then swapping out when all the prep is done.
I have had a quick read around but not too much detailed info about this swap. I am going to continue researching but so far I have ascertained that I need the following.
A different intercooler.
A different flywheel that is as rare as hens teeth.
A modified downpipe.
A new engine mount.
A modified bellhousing for crankshaft sensor.
A fuel pump and line.
Swap oil pump and pan.
A swear box.
new knuckles.
Some flowers to appease the wife.
My adjustable damper setup with lowering springs and coilovers on the rear should be no issue with suspension, Brakes may need beefing up a bit, but apart from that it is all just fairly simple modding to get it in? I'm thinking to get hold of the parts I need like the bellhousing, sump, oil pump etc beforehand so I can build without taking the car off the road.
Has anyone reading this done this or can point me to some threads that can help? I found a few links to this site through google but they come up as 'you are not authorised to view this page'. Anyone know why. Many thanks in advance.

I think it's because he hasn't sorted them out yet.
You could always check Google to see if there is a cache of the page(s) in question.
Re: Hello. (New member) I brought pics!
I've sent you a pm Number 47 regarding the swap
BTW the b230et has the 531 head
but has the skinny 9mm con rods.

I'm currently doing this, well most of it. I'm just turbo-ing the b200 in the car but pretty similar.
I'll try help your list out but feel free to ask for any help or advice, I'm gonna make a guide to help people wanting to do the 940 engine swaps just not quite got round to it yet.
Uprated clutch,
B200 waterpump?
here's a really good build thread that helped me plan mine loads:

Parts i'd also look at...Number 47 wrote: A different intercooler. - pretty definately, stock 940 one wont fit without serious modding. A cheap ebay one that fits nice maybe?
A different flywheel that is as rare as hens teeth. Depends but quite likely, i don't knw what engine/ box combos had the right ones
A modified downpipe.DIY, we used the standard 940 one with 2x 45 degree bends off another bit of exhaust.
A new engine mount.check my thread, managed to beat mine down with a hammer enough for now. Check out Dai's ones
A modified bellhousing for crankshaft sensor.Again check my thread for what i reckon is the simplest and neatest method.
A fuel pump and line. 100%, pump off an inj 360 may do
Swap oil pump and pan. Unsure on pump, thought it was just the pickup

Re: Hello. (New member) I brought pics!
Because the motronic flywheel is 228mm you just use that with 360 clutch and b230et pressure plate, I pm'd you a number for a guy who has the motronic flywheel.
That clutch combo was used by a guy running 305hp with his b230et 360 and he had no problems.

Re: Hello. (New member) I brought pics!
Thanks guys, a lot to research and mull over. I won't be going drastic on this, just a bit more power, don't need loads, at the moment the old man in me is thinking it is a bit much but the young lad in me is thinking of twice the horsepower. Sucks being middle aged but I guess after this the old man takes over so if I'm going to do this I'd better do it now.....
@360 beast.
Cheers for the PM, very helpful.
I did a lot of reading last night and I'm pretty sure this engine is running motronic. Can you explain the flywheel thing. I have seen pictures of the motronic flywheel, one pin in front of the teeth and lacks the holes of the later LH2.4 models. Is this the flywheel you are talking about? If so then what is it off and what is on the B230et? I'm assuming a motronic engine must have the correct motronic flywheel? A bit confused TBH. Doesn't help that I haven't seen this engine yet, will know more next week when he brings it over. Rather stupidly forgot to ask if it was a manual or an automatic when I spoke to him. I'm assuming if manual then the flywheel is OK? I will call him after 12 today to confirm.
Is it a fitment issue with the bellhousing? I've read tons of threads, (even tried a bit of Swedish) but have yet to fully understand.
@Nimminz, cheers for the help, will check out your thread. Had read the other 940 one already, scary stuff!
I'd better go and get my subframe sorted before the 6 nations. Procrastinating a bit. This engine idea has really thrown me off track and my schedule has lost a day researching this. Should have had the front suspension back on the car by now. Tut tut..

Re: Hello. (New member) I brought pics!
If it's a manual it will have the correct flywheel fitted, if you want pics of the flywheel send me an email (my email address I sent in the pm) and I will find mine wherever I put it and send you some pics.
Yep the flywheel you described is correct, as the pin passes under the sensor the sensor picks it up which tells the ecu that piston one is at TDC (top dead centre).
Only 740 and 760s with a B230ET have this flywheel as no other redblock engines run motronic 1.0.
Make sure all the loom etc is there or you will be looking for bits and pieces. Luckily I have a donor car and a spare engine with a complete engine bay loom and a pre cut loom for fitting a b230et to a 240. There should be the motronic ecu which will say motronic on it, a motronic starter pack which is a black box with ridges on it that sits in the engine bay and a black box which sits in the drivers footwell which controls the idle control, all of the headlights (not needed), but most importantly is that it is the relay which powers the whole ECU system.
If this box is missing you can wire in a relay to power the ecu but you will just have to fit a manual idle control valve and set the idle between 1000-1200 so when you use electrics the idle doesn't drop too low.
My tablet hates typing in V3M it's slow to react and when typing it decides to jump up a few lines and delete sentences. So if you send me an email I will send you pics and a detailed description.
