The most heard comments were as follows-
"What the hell is that?"
"Never knew Volvo made "tiny" cars"
"A Volvo? It can't be a Volvo, I know every model they ever made" (this came a from a gent who has been a lifelong Volvo owner....LOL)
"Wow, where can I get one. That looks sharp"
"Belt drive? You're kidding right?" (this chap actually went under the car to see for himself and walked away shaking his head in disbelief...LOL)

Ha Ha Ha....needless to say I had fun.

The one comment I hear at every show (when I bring a Variomatic car) and I cringe when I hear it- "Hey, just like a snowmobile"
NO, YOU (IDIOT) SNOWMOBILES HAVE DAF TRANSMISSIONS!!

The show yesterday was amazing, I encountered a completely different sort of people. Since it was sponsored by a nationally known auto Museum more knowledgeable people seemed to be in attendance.
I did not hear the "Snowmobile Transmission" comment once. :D :D

I was rather disappointed that the Museum decided to combine the "All-Euro Show" and the "Spring Dust-Off Show" into a single event. I guess other people had the same feelings because attendance was way down from last year, 900 verses 287. :(

Last weekend I attended one of our more famous local car shows. This show is in it's 27th year and normally (depending on the weather of course  ) draws between 900 to 1,000 cars during the annual two day event.
"Marilyn" was placed in a class with foreign cars (1970-1988) for the event which included the dreaded VW Beetle (Everyone loves the Beetle, they are so cute...Grrr. ), some Italian iron and even a few newer style Bentley/ RR motors...all together there were 9 cars in my class.

Image
I was very proud that my 1978 V343 went home with a First Place Trophy!! :D :D
A Lancia Fulvia took second place and a VW Beetle took third place.

GR8 4 WINNIN TROPHIES

Well deserved John. I'd pay money to be there and see people's faces.

A Lancia Fulvia of any kind must be a rare sight in the US too.

Cheers gents...I was very happy, to say the least. :D :D

As of a few weeks ago some minor surgery was performed on "Marilyn".

She now has a spanky new 123-Ignition dizzy. Unbelievable difference that made between the original (read: shite) Ducelier and no more worries about bits flying off inside nor ending with a seized motor due to dizzy failure.

Off to yet another car show on Sunday with her...this show another long 2+ hours away and no worries. 340pw

I was surrounded.......

I was surrounded by Red Brit cars (as well as those DAMNED VW Beetles) this past weekend at a local Car Show.
Top honours in my classification group went to:
1st- VW Beetle sm2
2nd-VW Beetle sm2
3rd- Sunbeam Tiger

Ha Ha Ha....it never ceases to amaze me as so very common the Beetle is people are still amazed by the "40 year wonder"

Genuine Tiger? Those are rare here, though I seem to think you got most of them over there? Are they a common sight at shows?

Not common at all Chris. This is only the second Tiger I have seen in ten years at ANY show.

Lovely :D

I've only ever seen one, at a Goodwood Breakfast Club meet. Mad idea, just like the Cobra but less common ;)

Quite rare indeed...My father was a Sunbeam enthusiast owned a 1961 Sunbeam Alpine and later a Sunbeam Alpine GT (a 1967 if I remember). He could never locate a Tiger, even rare back in the day.

Last weekend I (and MARILYN) spent a very enjoyable day with the Rolls/Bentley Owner's Club at a local car show....as usual they went "over the top".
Image
They were a great group of very enthusiastic car owners.

They had placed two Rolls, a Bentley as well as a "Bathtub" Porsche in my class...
Image
Surprisingly, my 343 placed 3rd in the class having only been outdone by the Yellow 1975 RHD Rolls-Royce and the 1956 Porsche. :D :D :D
