Love the number plate. We wouldn't get away with that here
I took my bannana for a spin yesterday to take it to a different storage
place to allow me to lock up the GLS at night. It was great to get driving
it again. She will be going back on the road latter in the year.
Cheers Mark.

Ha, Ha, Ha, Mark...
The Antique number plate is special. Here any car over 25 years can sport one. It only costs $14.00 per year in contrast to a "normal" plate (which costs $ 70.00 per year) and is 100% Tax Free. :D :D
As soon as the new Dizzy arrives "Marilyn" will be on the road a lot this Summer.

Cheers M8. :D If all works well "Marilyn" should be getting a good work out on the car show circuit this year...15 shows on my calender, as of today. :o

In the meantime....all is not roses at DAF Central. :( My Ducelier Dizzy went "PING" and spewed bits all over. According to rumors this is a normal occurrence with that French bit of shite.
Be forewarned chaps, it happens way too often and contrary to a beleif, they are NOT interchangeable with similar units from an 1100cc nor from a 1300cc...the curves are different!!!!
...and besides that, I've tried it.
I have rebuilt the original unit (and it's running the car momentarily) but still awaiting the arrival of my new 123ignition unit from Holland.

The hardest part of the rebuild was locating Circ Clips in the proper size (had to visit 4 different factors) and setting the Vacuum Advance wheel to the correct advance. But it is functioning properly now (which is more than I can say for it's owner  ).

Might be a bit late now John, but if you are loosing a snadge of originality going to the 123 (I take it that it'll look identical on the outside with the points replaced with a hall sensor?) why did you not choose a Renix conversion?

Looking forward to seeing the progress on the project :)

I think the postage on a Renix flywheel would cost about the same as a 123. (How heavy are those buggers anyway?)

and the bellhousing for the TDC mount..

Renix conversions can be more dear than a 123ignition...The price I purchased the unit for was way below market (special friend price. :) )
The extra time of changing out the flywheel & housing (Matt S. has converted his 55 & 66 to Renix) is just not worth it.

Also, IF I were ever to move a car on it would be easier to replace the original dizzy rather than replace an entire Renix.

All good points, I hadn't thought about the flywheel!

It's just a lot more effort Chris and something I have no desire to take on.

Now I have spooks or Gremlins...took Marilyn on a nice long run (about 6 miles) and she ran great. Later I took her out again and suddenly she was gasping for spark, or gas, or air.
I noticed the Vacuum gauge went extremely high every time I pressed on the gas pedal but her RPMs would not go up. Sputter, sputter, sputter, cough, cough.

OK, so what is it this time ?? The Anti-Run Solenoid, the Carb Solenoid, or the Distributor (again) ?? ?? sm2

Any thoughts ?? ??

Short guess: shite in the carb

Have you looked in the float chamber recently? How many solenoids does a B14.0S carb have? Last time I checked it had just the one, but I'm open to correction.

Alternate guess: did you put the dizzy back together properly? :P

Spent the morning going over the checklist Rich.
1. Float Chamber clean...no problem
2. Anti-Run Solenoid working...no problem
3. Dizzy was correct...although it was removed again and discovered another circ had fallen off (an old one)

Now, I'll have to start from square one and reset the timing all over again. Dog Danglies!

OH well.....it's all good.

I did order a 123ignition replacement dizzy (which was lost in the post! sm2 ) so I have had to rebuild another old one and swap the vacuum advance module. She seems to be running happy, for now, and plan on driving her to a major car show on the 5th of May.

I've been re-reading this thread: well done on getting your 343 back on the road - I don't know of anyone replacing their whole roof before! But the effort was well worth it.

Good infos from Robbert there too, about the "history of V343 mirrors" ... Interesting how Volvo just deleted the old parts from their catalogue, and replaced them with the bigger style mirrors instead. It's a similar story with the "Mk1 bonnets with the lump in them" - I remember reading somewhere (probably in one of the dealer info leaflets) that Volvo deleted the "flat style bonnet" in favour of the "lump style", presumeable to keep storage costs down.

That's the first I've heard of "123 ignition" http://www.123ignition.nl being used too. It does sound like a good idea. No more points to worry about.

I don't know much about how ignition systems work, "redarding ignition timing" etc. but would using electronic ignition also mean you can easily change to using 95 RON fuel? I have to use 98 RON "super plus unleaded" (including lead-replacement additive) - being able to fill up with 95 RON E5 would be quite a saving.

Cheers
