Thanks guys!

It's not entirely fully loaded - it would need to have A/C to truely qualify for that ;-) And the car does have some rust, in particular on the rear doors in the usual places, and the central spoiler hole of the rear hatch.

Last Saturday I drove 700km to Göttingen to pick up a set of doors in 302 metallic green. They're not perfect and have some dents and scratches, but no serious rust. They came from an otherwise totally rotten swedish B200K 360 GL saloon (a combination we never got in Germany):

So my to-do list for the spring includes swapping electric mirrors / windows and door locks over. And keep looking for a good hatch replacement :-) I have a brand new one, and some good ones in the wrong colour, but resprays are very expensive around here ...

Cheers

No, no electric windows on 300s (at least, from the factory ...)

If you're driving your 300 as a daily, than AC is a great thing to have. If not, it's just an extra expense - I agree, it's not really necessary. But sunroofs can be a pain as well, especially finding intact cables ...

The last two weekends have seen some work done on this car. The bubbling around the windscreen surround has been bugging me for a while, and the rusty rear doors don't do the car any favours so Rainer (from the Daf scene) has taken the car under his wing.

Currently, the car looks like this...

Image

... note the Hazet hinge pin removal tool in the pic.

First job: taking the front windscreen out. Loosend the dashboard, removed the a-pillar trim and unscrewed the lower black clips, but it still broke on removal despite our efforts. I was trying to save the seal, but maybe we should have cut it instead to make it easier to push out. Never mind, I still have a spare windscreen which we'd saved from my scrapped GLi.

Cleaned up the windscreen surround, the left hand side needed a NOR repair panel welding in:

Image

Just for the record, the part numbers for the A-pillar repair panels are
Klokkerholm 9005321 LH
Klokkerholm 9005322 RH
and the LH side is still available from http://www.klokkerholm.com
http://www.klokkerholm.com/xProductCata ... oup=789828

Metallic paints are harder to match, so I'm a bit worried about how it'll turn out. We'll see ...

Anyway, on to the doors. The donor doors aren't perfect (the drivers side has a deep scratch and a dent) but the metal is in a much better condition overall.

Old door:

New door:
Image

Swapped the glass over (was missing from the "new" door), the door handle, fitted the electric winder mechanism and replaced the central locking motor for a new one (Volvo 3205228). If the drivers' side doesn't work, all the motors don't work, I'm really looking forward to having that fixed ...

New Volvo weather strips for the window:

Image

Volvo 3210590 LH
Volvo 3210591 RH

Weather strips are the same for front and rear, 3dr or 5dr (5dr ones are just cut to size), only the LH and RH sides are different. I only have one set, so out of the 4, the 2 which look the worst get replaced.

After all that work, refitting the perished door handle seals would have been silly, luckily Robbert has made up a stash of these for a very reasonable price:
Image

They were a perfect fit, and Robbert posted these the day my money arrived, many thanks for that Robbert!
Available here:
http://www.born-built-beauties.eu/html/ ... parts.html

Next weekend it's on to the RH doors ...

Cheers

Spent last weekend rummaging in the parts stash, mainly looking for good door seals, and decided to swap the 5 dial dash for a 6 dial one. Fuel economy wasn't of great importance for the first owner, but I love econometers and their bouncy needles :-)

New and old VDO dash:

Image

Not sure if all the bulbs are still working, note the rubber tubing and the brass tapping for the inlet manifold. Loosen the screws at the back (the metal blanking plate where the econometer sits needs to come off too to access two screws):

Image

and the front comes off easily:

Four extra screws, and the speedo comes out:

Swap the tachometer, and everything's good! Will probably fit it some time next week (when we put the windscreen back in  )

Wicked work, but Tom you'll put it all back in the car, spot one fleck of dust in the corner of the dash and have to take it all apart again ;-)

Thanks for your comments :-) Lots more finished now! The windscreen surround is painted and all four donor doors are back on, with new hinge pins and all the electric internals (mirrors, electric window lifts, electric mirrors) swapped over.

I'm really pleased at how the painting of the windscreen surround turned out:
Image

What's not so great is how the metallic paint ages differently from car to car, even though the colour code was the same on the donor saloon. Depending on which angle you view the car you can really tell it's had four new doors fitted. I'm hoping it'll look better with a polish and once the stripe has been continued to both ends of the car.

Image

Check out the old door:
Image

Not much worth saving there! And here's a close-up of the new one:
Image

Next on the todo list: fit a new RHS rubbing strip which was missing on the donor door. I've polished off the rest of the glue, (and various dried swedish bird poo) going from this:

Image

to this:

to this:

Now the rubbing strip and the stripe need to go on.

Cheers

How you adjust the kilometer numbers with the old ones? Or you just change the speed gauge and put your old one?

Isn't it a case of 'clocking it' with a power drill, but I never said that ;-?

Hi JFB!

I just swapped the speedo from the 5 dial dash over to the 6 dial dash. That way I kept the same KM-count.

That rubbing strip still isn't on :-) It's MOT time this month so, so that's a good opportunity to get some work done.

Cheers

Some random pictures from two weekends ago - we went for a walk in the Ardennes, Belgium and took the 360:

... and is also faimed for its carneval:

I don't use the car that much any more, but love taking it on this kind of trip :-) Belgium is about 1,5 hrs away from us, via twisty Eifel roads ...
