Its when the rubber is hard and a slot develops around the middle, it won't work correctly.

Been busy over Easter. My deox-c bath has been working overtime. Lots of rear suspension bits are now rust free and in various stages of paint.

Image

Springs came out well, ready for paint.

Image

Rear cross member is in a bit of a state. My deox-c is on it's last legs but tossing it in to see if I get away with it. The two tank shields are in there just now.

Image

This had to come out again. I hate this lump. Getting it out on my own on jackstands was a life changing experience. Now soaking in a bit of gunk, will be painted with some por-15 enamel. The bushings that carry the gearbox are very soft and tired but I think they are ok to re-use.

Image

Axle is waiting for me to get a puller. One wheel bearing is gone but I have 2 replacements.

Deox-c did wonders for my brake drums. Will be re-using the handbrake cables and replacing shoes and springs.

Image

Tank is coming out tomorrow, drained it tonight but the hose clamps disintegrated so waiting for it to vent before I cut them off. The tank straps are in a bad way so they will be getting some treatment. Painting the tank.

Planning on dismantling the driveshafts to get everything clean and regreased. Had to put one back together before, horrible job but they are all rusty and will let the side down.

Forgot I had cut the brake hoses at the front. Had to start the car to jump my seicento when I left the lights on. Was wondering what the pool was under the front of the car the next morning. My newly painted subframe now has a large unpainted part. Didn't eat the zinc primer so, a clean and touch up should do the trick.

getting there. My b230et is stripped and I have sourced some of the parts I need plus a spare set of sensors. Will be driving the car on the b19a while I rebuild it. Just need to buy new bearings and have it honed, then of course. Paint.

Got a few bits prepped for paint today.

Image

Completely fed up of these... Before and after, I have lost count of how many I have worn out.

Image

Gave the drums a quick couple coats of the leftover paint from my calipers. Springs are looking good painted, not sure how it will hold up. Got the rear bearings fitted.

Image

Not sure if I will paint this shiny lump. Might just polish it all and clearcoat it. Sure looks a lot bettrer than before, still the other sides to do yet.

My deox c has given up, ordered 2 kilos more to do the rear backplates and the rear crossmember.

In the next few weeks I will be attempting to replace the bearings in the torque tube, should be interesting.

Fuel tank has been tidied up, new hoses except for the large filler which was fine. I have tried a new method with these, knocked off all the rust with my wire wheel then used hammerite kurust before finally giving it 2 coats of hammerite straight to rust paint. I got them free really because I bought a puller from halfords and one of the legs snapped when trying to pull the shafts. I managed to pull them anyway and returned the puller for the paint and kurust. Happy days. Crappy puller though, brown trousers when it snapped.

Have the PU bushings fitted in the springs and just have to clean up the shafts then the axle is ready for refitting. Tyres are coming off this wweek for wheel refurb then I'm popping on some dunlop street response. Waiting for my brake line tool and will fit the new brake lines.

Need some advice here guys if anyone is keeping an eye on this?

I was trying to fit the PU shackle bushings tonight, I used a bit of threaded bar, lock nuts and two washers from the shocks. They were wider than the bushings. I used a good amount of BMW assembly grease designed for the job. However, after winding them in and releasing the tension the bushing on one side has retreated back out of the housing leaving the metal dowel back inside, this has happened on both sides. When I re-tensioned them to try to push them back they have done the same but now the metal dowel is further in. Any advice? I'm thinking they are going to have to come out again and this will ruin them?

I have to confess I have never fitted any of these myself yet but have sold a lot of them now.

Make sure you push the PU in first and the tube in after. You should be fine taking them out and having another go.

Cheers Dai, right enough I pushed them in complete, managed to get them back out after tapping the core metal insert in a bit more and refitted them correctly. Now fine.

Been sick, wasn't able for much and to cap it my block turned out to need a rebore. Impossible to find oversize pistons so I now have a replacement block that has been rebored, brand new pistons and bearings and 13mm rods. Polished crank that was balanced with skimmed flywheel. Should be here next week.

Got a few bits done tonight. Rear xmember is now rust free and painted, tank straps are too. Took apart one of my halfshafts and am just waiting to second coat the shaft. 2 cv joints were disassembled and are now sparkling clean, rebuilt and ready for grease.

Will try to get some pics up tomorrow from my phone, left my camera at work. Back on the ball though.

I had noticed the lack of updates.

I'm stripping my JIG car of all the bits that do not need to be on it. The interior looks to be exactly the same as yours, do you want a spare?

Haven't really looked too deeply at the interior, seems to be in good nick but I could do with new front door cards and a window winder. Have you pics? Will have a look over it soon, will have to get the car back on her wheels before I go poking around inside, I'm wary of the drivers rear jacking point.

I was dreading this but it turned out to be easy. As promised, some pics of my half shaft rebuild. Just cleaning really and a coat of paint. First disassembly.

Image

And reassembled and shaft painted. (Was very rusty and ugly)

Image

Just need some boot bands and then pack them with grease before refitting.

Nice, I also must do this. No circlips? What grease for extra bhp handling?

There are c-rings holding them together. Seems fine like that. I'm just using regular cv lith-moly grease, (or, I was planning to) what would you recommend? I won't be putting the engine in the car for some time. Plan is to run her on the B19a for now. Still a lot of stuff to do before the swap but would be grateful for any advice.
