'82 blue 345 GLS

Post by Duvel78 » 25 Jul 2014 05:26 pm

A totally unexpected car at home since yesterday... (Thanks Robbert Jan for pointing out the advert!) A mint 345 GLS from February 1982, only one owner, 80.000km. The car is superb and drives very well. Maybe the opportunity to install my new R-sport kit? :D Or just leave it as it is in genuine condition? The collection is still growing, oh my dear... help!

Looks great, you should fit the R sport kit.

That is really clean!

I'd love to say install the kit, but it really is clean as a clean thing. Your shout bud, I'd stick the kit on a "normal" 360 if I were you!

Wow, what a find - that's my favourite car of yours. NIce Mk2 and earlier dashboard.

You HAVE to put the R Sport kit on this, it's the perfect candidate being an early car and to be honest they're a bit boring to drive as standard. I also hate to say it but I think it needs some OEM stripes of some sort :D Anyway, the kit is pretty much all bolt on so it would hardly be much of an issue to remove it if you ever felt the need (which I doubt!)

Doesn't the "S" version over there mean it has awesome front spoiler, rev counter and shinier engine?

So not just a UK CD175 redblock?

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Steve is right, it's the basic B19A with Zenith 175, nothing special about the engine... So I'm afraid Chris  , no shinier engine, no spoiler, but it has the rev counter!

About the R-kit, I think it could be a nice upgrade... I don't think it's sacrilege to put the twin carb, K cam and different exhaust, it's a genuine kit after all and the mods are limited. And as you said Steve, it's not a problem at all to remove it if necessary. About the exterior, I'm more tempted to leave it as it is, an anonymous R-Sport  Or maybe only the R-sport badges on the front wings under the Volvo logo.

I'm clueless when it comes to 343/345 but because it's a B19 does that mean it's a torque tube? Please someone educate me on these

Let's face it, the R Sport kit was made to be used and if it doesn't go on this it will just sit doing nothing for many more years which would be a waste.

yes it has a torque tube and would be closer to a UK 360. Volvo have always been a bit inconsistent with their numbering, or possibly people make incorrect asscoiations with the numbering system.

The R sport kit has most value sat in the boxes still unused but it is sad to for them not to be used. If you are going to fit them to anything it does need to be a very solid clean car or the right age so I would say this fits the bill perfectly. It is not a rare or unusual model so go ahead and put the R sport parts on. I doubt you will do much millage with it anyway but it will allow the parts to be used how they were supposed to be and will give a good demonstration of the kit fitted.
