I did own a MY'83 340 Winner some decade ago, and loved the basic equipment. It did not have to be GLS or GLE specs for me.
Wow, that really is truly basic. I drove a MY '82 343 Junior in the 90's, also a basic model with the "detuned" engine (different carb, different downpipe) but that at least had some cool side striping, tinted glass, and a sports steering wheel. A cigarette lighter, intermittent wash/wipe, parcel shelf and OS/mirror were on board too, but no clock ...

So they removed: the cigarette lighter + ashtray light, parcel shelf, reverselights (bulbs only!), side guard rubbers, O/S mirror & rear foglight (bulb only).
In practice these "Winners" were more expensive than the 340 L, due to the extra labour, to built. And they actually sold quite a lot of these "sales-enhancing" models, for a HFL 985,00 less!
Well, they were actually all produced in the factory and not modified later on as it was simply too expensive to remove the parts and destroy them.
The tail light without the reverselight is an official Volvo part and not a local glue job.

Only striping was added locally for the special editions.

RJ: I found this urban legend too strange to believe myself as well! Thanx for the explanition.

Tom: Nice Junior you had, I believe we had in The Netherlands an 340 Special in 1984 in Red available as well, it also had the identical striping + the 14" Alloys (I think people call them Leos?)

Buenas Duvel.
What did you do in the end?
With the kit and the 340?

I have found a 343 GLS in good nick.
Also know of a an almost complete = incomplete kit.

Would like to get the plan with it sorted out before concluding a deal.
Since you appear to have been on that exact same road, please expand.
