good evening all, a little more work done today :)
14/12/16
started today by finishing the undersealing, the front wheel arches

Image20161214_111402 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

I then coated the inner chassis with waxoyl (note to self dont ever use brush on underseal again not when you can spray it on.....
also warm up the waxoyl before use)

There is not really any pictures of this stage as you can imagine being the inner chassis

As my time was nearly up by this point i had a little play in contouring the window frame to start to get the right shape, it is coming on slowly.
Image20161214_115045 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
I have to admit.... she looks good in black...

Once home i decided to tap the holes in the alternators where the paint had got in to.
Image20161214_141003 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
and then i finished assembly one of the alternators, i was dying to see how it look, i like it

Image20161214_144731 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Still need to connect the electrics, not soldered them yet.

I have been looking at adding the timer light relay when the doors open, i have the socket from the other loom which i have traced all the wires, just need to splice it in to my loom :D

hopefully there will be more before xmas

How many alternators can you get in a 340? Is it a CVT thing ;-?

Very well done, by the way.
1988 340 1.4 GL, 218k, 5 door (Grey Bess). Gone to CBA.
1991 340 1.7 GL, 64k, 5 door, petrol blue (Deep Blue).
1988 360 2.0 GLE, 140k, 5 door, ocean blue metallic (Blue Bess).
1989 340 1.7 GL, 108k, 3 door (Red Ness).
More info here!

Hello all, been a little ill as of late so only managed to feel well enough to do something today.
21/12/16
so to start i decided that as it was wet i would make the propshaft and bell housing look better, sanded them off and coated in etch primer
before cleaning
Image20161221_085550_zpsq8uprmul by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
after cleaning
Image20161221_085555 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
etch primered
Image20161221_090644 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_103512 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_103515 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

while these were drying i finished off the alternators, the electrical connections needed soldered, but all 3 are now finished
Image20161221_103506 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

As i had the soldering iron out i proceeded to remove the relay socket from the old spare damaged loom and splice this in to mine.

I have taken detailed photos of this should anyone else want to put a time delay on to the interior light

First trace the green/yellow wire from the light under the steering wheel to the end
light side
Image20161221_105449 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
end side
Image20161221_105333 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
from this same end trace the pink wire up the loom until both the green/yellow and the pink wires run along side each other
Image20161221_105345 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

also find an earth to use, i used am earth the had a crimp on it but any earth will work
Image20161221_105353 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20161221_105612 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

any 4 pined relay will work, the wiring is as follows, the pink wire is a +ve feed, the green/yellow is the earth wire when the door is opened, the red wire from the socket goes to the light and the brown is the earth for the light through the realy. (it is red if you have the relay socket already there or green/yellow if you do not this wire goes to the light under the steering wheel)

splice in the pink wire (the colour on the socket will depend on the socket you buy, but as above the pink is +ve feed)
Image20161221_110152 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
heatshink as you see fit
Image20161221_110655 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_110712 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_110857 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

next cut the green/yellow wire, then splice to each end the switched pins in the relay
Image20161221_111117 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_111326 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_112104 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

then connect up the earth, in my case the brown wire, I used the volvo socket from a damaged loom, but i had to re-pin the socket to match my after market relay, as that has not arrived yet i left the green link wire in place
Image20161221_112118 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Somebody in the past joined the hazard switch wires via crimps, dont know the reason behind this, but as i had the damaged loom i cut off the switch and replaced the crimps
Image20161221_120055 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_120055 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

so now all the wiring was done, the etch primer had dried, so moved on the paint
Image20161221_112406 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_112415 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20161221_122218 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
however it made a bad bearing noise, so yes i took it apart and ordered a new bearing
Image20161221_153115 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

So that is it for today, getting there :D

Good day all. So I have brought a few little bits for duchess.
First I got a set of "beauty ring" least I think that is what it is called.
Image20170101_152008 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

And I also got her a spoiler, needs a little bit of a tidy up where the top layer has peeled a bit, so any advice would be great please.
Image20170101_152019 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

I have also got hold of 3 chrome straps that push in to the windscreen rubber, sadly it is 3 of the top section.
So does anyone have a bottom chrome section we can swap one, or does anyone need a top piece?

Going to be cracking on hard tomorrow so watch this space :)

My wife brought me this picture which thought I would share with you all :D

Good day all, today i hung the rear doors because I was worried about the corner fowling the sill as it did when i had a little try the other day, however i was very happy to see that they fitted really well. so i then moved on to hanging the front doors (all the doors but the passenger front doors were old ones new ones to go on) then the issue showed itself, where i fixed the gutter it was not straight and was catching the door :( and the corner was catching the sill.
Image20170102_101655 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

the other side fitted really nice
Image20170102_103354 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
and the shut gap was good all the way around
Image20170102_103402 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

cut out the side above the gutter to reveal the the repair that i did
Image20170102_112043 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
ground the welds off and freed the gutter which i then re-positioned it so the gap was consistent all the way around
Image20170102_121836 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170102_121839 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

cleaned up the welds
Image20170102_125244 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

then i made a new piece for the out side of the window frame
Image20170102_125244 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

then i refitted the rear door and the gap is good
Image20170102_152327 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

refitted the front door and with a gentle massage the sill was moved so the corner does not catch the corner anymore
Image20170102_153310 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

and as you can see, that is why the door is being replaced :?
the front door gap is also good :D
Image20170102_153312 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Coated with some black paint to protect over night
Image20170102_153317 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170102_153323 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

so again..... thats the welding done....... I hope........
Tomorrow will start to get on with the filler as last.

more to follow soon

Ben :)

I am surprised to see that you didn't POR / paint the inside of the A pillar.
Is there a min temp under which you can't use it?

I did paint it, but used eastwood rust encapsulator instead, and the silver is weld through primer

good day all, the latest update for you all.
03/01/17
started by putting some filler over the repair of yesterday on the A-piller, then moved to wire brushing the holes where the boot hinges attach.
Image20170103_100959 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

while the boot was off i found a little rust.... the welder came out (in the voice of a jedi.."this is not a welder you see") there was a little rust hole around the mounting point for the boot
Image20170103_101002 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170103_101005 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170103_101012 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

then i painted with rust encapsulator
and moved on to start sanding the filler down
Image20170103_112714 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170103_112721 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

the boot hinge all encapsulated
Image20170103_112732 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170103_112735 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170103_112747 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

found some low areas on the wiper panel
Image20170103_113641 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170103_113647 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

added a bit more filler, while that was drying the first powdered coated bit went back on, the cross member
Image20170103_123747 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
with new bolts :D
Image20170103_152735 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

sanded the filler
Image20170103_134744 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170103_134746 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

Image20170103_134751 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
few scratches
Image20170103_134803 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
put a bit of filler on the boot lip
Image20170103_134817 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

bit more filler, i must stress i am only applying a thin layer each time, but the general shape is coming on, just sorting out the lows
Image20170103_152706 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170103_152715 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170103_152721 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

finished for the day so painted over with some gloss paint to seal the filler
Image20170103_153201 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Image20170103_153222 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr

so thats all for a bit
