Brilliant work there mate!! There more pictures the better!!!
Re: Duchess The Volvo 340 CVT
Good evening all, well the past two days have been eventful with lots being dismantled.
27/02/2016 saw the drive hub nuts removed and then rear axle removed, and a clean out of the the grease on the CVT side where the driveshafts connect, only to find that the gaskets were not there...

IMAG3786 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
IMAG3793 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
the hubs dismantled easy enough on one side, however the bearing housing on one side did not want to give up the bolts, two of which had to be drilled out.....
IMAG3795 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
This took most of Saturday and by the time I finished getting the bolts out is was dark.
29/02/16 was a very eventful day, firstly the calipers and carriers were removed from both sides ready for cleaning.

the hub nuts removed and the front hubs removed

IMAG3802 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Relocated the big ass spider..
IMAG3808 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
IMAG3809 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
next was the suspension struts taken out, sadly the passenger one decided that the bolts holding the back plate on would rather snap than come out
IMAG3811 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
IMAG3810 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
the next task was the torque rods and lower arms, again all came undone quite easy with the aid of the vice!!
IMAG3812 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
while i was there is decided to remove the anti roll bar
IMAG3815 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
So after some well deserved lunch and tea, i moved on to getting the bearings out of the houses, a large socket and a big hammer made short work of the bearing
IMAG3816 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
IMAG3817 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
next was separating the front hubs from the discs, again my new impact drive and a large hammer solved this one, all 8 bolts out with no real issue...... however i did decide to miss the impact and hammer my thumb instead, not one of my wisest ideas....
IMAG3818 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
after all this more tea was in order, then i set again cleaning up the rear axle, many wire brushes and a drill worked really well.

IMAG3822 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
IMAG3823 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
after a good couple of hours the rear axle is looking clean, still a bit more to go on it yet.
But i turned my attention to removing the carburetor,
IMAG3825 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
IMAG3826 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
and also taken the rear lights off so i can do the earth wire upgrade, when it starts to rain again tomorrow.
IMAG3827 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Tomorrow will see some more cleaning of parts
Until then watch this space

I wish I could work this fast!

Re: Duchess The Volvo 340 CVT
Tuesday 1st of March - Well today was a cleaning up of the parts day, however i got distracted by a nice shiny juicy package from Mac and some parts from Dia, Thank you both
2017-07-02_05-12-46 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
So with the arrival of the gaskets for the driveshafts that was first on the list for today.
IMAG3832 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
So after killing my dremel, I went on with the original plan of cleaning the parts up, first was the inner drive flanges from the rear axle
Before
IMAG3833 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
After
IMAG3834 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
IMAG3835 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Next up was the hubs from the rear axle
Before
IMAG3836 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
After
IMAG3837 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
followed by the bearing houses
Before
IMAG3838 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
After all parts cleaned
IMAG3839 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
then started on the brake back plates and the drums
IMAG3844 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
IMAG3845 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
the drums came up really nice.
I have decided to get the front suspension parts bead blasted and maybe powder coats (depending cost)
IMAG3843 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
so that's it for today.
More will follow

Re: Duchess The Volvo 340 CVT
Good evening.
Well today was not as eventful as i had hoped, things took just that little bit longer.
03/03/16
So first on today's list was painting the exhaust manifold, and then cleaning of the caliper carriers, they cleaned up ok, but hoped they world clean up a little better.
Before
IMAG3846 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
After
IMAG3847 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Next to be cleaned up was the front hubs, these did clean up quite well
Before
IMAG3848 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
After
IMAG3849 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Bit weird that one of the hubs has a flat side, any one know why?
The painted manifold, came out really nice the paint went on well and smooth, no runs and only 2 coats needed
IMAG3850 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
by this point i decided to have a go at the parts i was going to get bead blasted, effort to save a bit of restore fund.
Torque rods came out quite well
IMAG3851 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
lower suspension arms cleaned up but not really happy with how pited they are, hoping the paint will make them look better
IMAG3852 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
next was the ARB links and ARB cradles these cleaned up very well, sadly the washers are a lost cause as is the rubber bushing, but with thanks to Mac new parts are being sourced.
IMAG3853 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
So that was today's work, does not seem that much but that took most of the day.
Now for a well deserved holiday
Enjoy

Re: Duchess The Volvo 340 CVT
Not sure why one hub has a flat bit. Both of my sets are like that. Parts haul looks good, should go back together nicely once youve refreshed a few more bits

Re: Duchess The Volvo 340 CVT
What is the 360 steering rack for?
The hub with one having a flat spot and the other not I hvae a feeling that the strut has been changed on one side. The brake disks are of two styles and I think that the top spring seats are also two styles so more and more evidence to say that the strut has been changed. Its not an issue and I would not worry about it

Re: Duchess The Volvo 340 CVT
Its a 360 rack. Easy to tell by the T bar, a 340 is a lot shorter and almost directly on the rack
