Shipping on large items from the US is abusive...but I'll look into it.

Here's a pic of the part number, if it helps:

It's not a bad price...as long as the skirts can be sold. I know roughly what shipping will be, though...:( It's not pretty...

OK, the "season" (December to June) has now ended and the car has gone into hibernation. Some final pics for the year:

Showing off the new bumper corner which Jay managed to source (thanks again, mate!). You can still see where the old one had been screwed into the wing:

... and this is what it was like before (some random VW part (random indicator too) had been bodged on)
Image

Brand new wheel nuts and mudflaps. Rubbing strip not quite in alignment though ;-)

Todo for next year - try and fix the clutch disengagement valve (crunchy gear changes when the choke is pulled) and historic plate time - cheap tax and city centre "Umweltzone" driving :-)

very nice pix tom!

sounds like a easy job, most likely the white box on the left chassis beam that controls vacuum output to the membrame broken.

but, could also be a faulty microswitch on the gear leaver selector wich isn't an easy job

I had the complete gear change mechanism swapped first, in order to change the microswitch and now you can hear a clicking when you press the gear selector button, but it hasn't fixed the problem yet. The actual clutch disengager fork thingy would work, it but it doesn't get any vaccuum. I think I have two of those white boxes you mention - in the box with the diaphragms (membranes) in the bottom left of this pic:

just haven't got around to swapping them yet ...

Thanks for the advice!

Absolutely! My piece of advice to any newbie Vario owner - go along to a few meets and join a club. You'll get so much more help and useful advice from other enthusiasts than any Volvo garage you care to mention!

Well, mine's back off it again ;-) When I put the "seasonal plates" on, I wasn't really planning on passing any MOTs with the car. But I don't want to go and change the plates now, only to have to replace them a third time next year with the "H" historic ones...

Maybe now I'll get some time to get the green GLT sorted. But that's a different story ...

Keep us updated with your car, James!

Yeah, I need to start a thread, really. Mine's not a happy camper. Well...it's actually a lot happier than it was, rust-wise...but it's in a state of disassembly...and nowhere near ready to hit the road. :(

cheers

Gave the battery a fresh charge yesterday for the new season and the 343 started first time this morning :-) An oil change at the local petrol station and I'm whizzing about in it again. I love this car to bits - it is such a completely different car to both the 360s ...

A 600km round trip tomorrow, first to the Nürburgring and then down south to pick up some parts.
