the gasket luckaly!

it started to sound a little like a tractor and i noticed a slightly larger lag, just ordered 3 new stainless steel ones :D
other problem, might have a blown headgasket :( there's a slight white residu buildup in the breather hose; next drive will be without the catch can system so i can detirmine what is going on, it seems not to use any coolant what is making it strange.

and the right front wheelbearing is broken :lol: something tells me the car isn't used to my driving style jet :D

well it's a small part it is but with my build it's hard to reach the turbo and getting it off/on properly, that's why i don't like it :lol:

yesterday the new gaskets arrived:
Image

i took another look at the turbo and noticed that the cracks in the exhaust housing were even bigger now, then i tried the axle for play and the turbine nearly hits the housing on both sides :shock: so i swapped the nipples and wastegate over to the spare T2 turbo wich is in way better condition
Image

everything went perfect except for the oil feed nipple, for some reason Garret desided to change the thread on it... so with the nipple that was in there i had to fabricate a new extension so i can fit the hose:
Image

i've made it slightly longer too so the hose gets even more clearence with the exhaust housing.

this morning i build everything back and fired the engine up, still a tractornoise present :( hoping it was a small crack that would close itself on hotter temperature i took it for a spin and started flooring it constantly after 20km driving, took a look under the bonnet and the turbo was actually glowing red when i gave it some throttle :lol: but still, the leak was present crack is boo big :(

next step is to take the downpipe off, undo the heatwrap and check if there are any leaks/cracks, if that doesn't sort the noise i'll have to remove the exhaust manifold and do the same > i sure hope it's not the manifold that is really a bitch to get off :(

but if that is needed, i'll go all the way and CNC level all the flanges. it has to be sorted before half januari since it needs MOT by then, and havent checked the rest of the car but i also need to change the wheelbearing on the front right and maybe fabricate a new mount for the electric fuel pump (currently ty-ripped into place :lol: )

had a big laugh this afternoon;

i was busy taking off the exhaust manifold (and all the parts to make that possible) expecting a tiny crack or something similar
Image

when i was finally able to remove it and noticed this:

a better pic:
Image

the runners from cyl 1 and cyl 4 have separated from the cyl 2 and cyl 3 runner :lol:
i'm warming my hands and body up at the moment (it's a bit cold to work outside here, i was freezing) after that i'll check if it is savable (hope it will be, not in the mood for welding a new manifold since i'm planning a new (bigger) turbo)

oh and earlier this week i took 2 original v300 chairslides and made them fit under the sparco's

8 brackets;

incl chair;
Image

it's ready for install, i am gonna paint the frames and brackets black again before that though.

unwrapped id, and laughed my ass off;

ripped clean off :D :D

well, i wasn't in for creating a new manifold yet, i will do that with the bigger turbo. so for now i simply rewelded id. the steel had so much material tension that after i TIG welded it the first time, the weld teared at one runner when it cooled down. so i preheated it and then did the welding again, this time succes and it looked quite good actually.

this afternoon i was able to mount it back on the car.

some bits back;

more bits back;

redid a section of downpipe;

had to lay a new breather hose in, when i took it loose a while ago it came lying on the turbo and melted a bit :lol:
fired it back up, noise gone and i'm a happy man. runs great again, idle was good but now perfect.

next up, MOT; bring it on :D i can only think of one thing that might be a fail, that is the mounting of the electric fuel pump. hangs by a ziptie atm :lol: . maybe rear tire profile (the lack of profile that is) but i don't even consider that a mot problem anymore, i'll throw 2 steelies in the back. rest of the car was checked at the phase 1 rebuild, 1268km ago. i wrote only one thing down, right front wheel bearing, swapped that a few weeks ago :)

passed the MOT this morning :D

failed on rear tires but i had a good set of spares in the back, all i had to do was show them and then it was fine.
next up; seats and harnesses!!!

allmost, and my ass feels like royalty when it places itself on it :lol:

noticed a direct improvement in my driving and drifting because now i finally stay strapped into 1 place rather than slightly sliding over the leather seats.

what's up next?, well i hate to say this but the 343. i don't have many updates planned this or next month, maybe even till the summer. i'm thinking about ordering a new window streamer (same model) and put it 5cm higher to make it easyer for me at traffic lights, it looks badass but sticking your head out the window to see if the light is green is very much annoying. other than that i might start with tinting the windows and probably a extra set of wheels.

i do allready know precisely what i'm planning next suspension and brake wise. paint color for car body is also decided, i'm hoping to get it painted around april 2011 and by then painting will be one of the finishing modifications.

I hope my car is driving before April 2011 :lol:
then we could make a combo of both cars in the same color :wink:
