Re: Volvo 343 Turbo!
Yeh john i spoke to them yesterday but iain put 6 clutches in from them and they wouldnt take the power. They want £310 for a paddle but between us, its made by helix motorsport as they sent iain one that they didnt change the box on.
I would try the fiat paddle centre to a turbo cover plate and 340 release bearing.
The other cover i would like to try is a diesel one. I do have one here, but as the cover is much thinner on the diesel because the flywheel is thicker i think you may have o shim the release bearing.

Hmmmm, allright...........and the last point, you told.............that's the most different part

I think I'll gonna do it with the Centre plate of a Fiat Uno............

Re: Volvo 343 Turbo!
So the ultimate solution is a paddle direct from helix, with some sort of uprated williams pressure plate. www.williamsclio.co.uk is quite good for renault tuning, they were quite helpful when I asked about carb manifolds and there are enough properly tuned cars on there too.

Re: Volvo 343 Turbo!
But the main-question is: Will the splines of the helix paddle fit onto the axis of the coupling-housing of the 340 1.7? I don't think so because Renault uses other splines.......filthyjohn wrote:So the ultimate solution is a paddle direct from helix, with some sort of uprated williams pressure plate. http://www.williamsclio.co.uk is quite good for renault tuning, they were quite helpful when I asked about carb manifolds and there are enough properly tuned cars on there too.
What is the ultimate solution, I think: A paddle clutch of Fiat and a pressure-plate of helix.
But will the dowel-pins on the V460 fit directly to the pressure-plate of Helix?

Re: Volvo 343 Turbo!
I believe it will fit, i think that was Iain (huskyracer)'s setup. It was a paddle made specifically to fit the 1.7 clutch shaft.Ovlov 3.6L wrote:Will the splines of the helix paddle fit onto the axis of the coupling-housing of the 340 1.7?

Re: Volvo 343 Turbo!
I just called and mailed Helix Autosports a few times.
They can deliver me a uprated pressureplate which fits on the flywheel.
The drive-plate seems to be a problem. They told me that the splines of the Volvo 340 is different from that of all the Fiats.........
I'm sure they aren't right, so I send them another e-mail that most splines of Fiat are the same of that of Volvo 340.
After that, I didn't get an answer.........
Pffff, why does I can't get any easier........

Re: Volvo 343 Turbo!
finally some weeks ago I found the right solution for my clutchproblem.
Helix has put en complete clutch together for me.
- A upgraded cerametallic drive-plate
- A upgraded clutch-cover
All together it will cost me 458 pounds................quitte expensive but I need it.
The only problem I've got now, is to pay it........
The next problem will be te prop-shaft.......
At this weekend I broke one while drifting @ the Circuit of Zandvoort

Re: Volvo 343 Turbo!
Let us know how well it handles the power will you? At least now we know Helix have heard of the 340, and can be persuaded to make bits for it.

Re: Volvo 343 Turbo!
About the clutch; I mounted it about one and a half year ago and I must say; thats the last time I bought Helix. The pressplate is good. But the splines of the drive-plate has to much clearance. And You can hear it very well while idling.........*taktaktaktaktak*
Well uhm, the propshafts of RecoProp were just rubbish. I had to send them 5 times back to them because it had een balance-problem which caused big vibration problems.
Now I made my own propshaft. I started with that of a Volvo 244. Made it shorter. Made some adapter-plates. Total costs (including new bearing etc) about 40 pounds. The balancing I did on my own (with much patience)........... And costed me almost nothing (about 1 pound). I think this propshaft can handle 250bhp without problems.
The gearbox is completely standard. I should handle about 230bhp without much problems (no clutchkickin' allowed
)
At this moment I'm upgrading the "machine".
- Home made spaghetti-exhaus-manifold
- T3 turbo form a cosworth
- big front mount intercooler
- 2.0 liter inlet manifold
- 65mm throttlebody
- 3 inch exhaust
- some bigger injectors
- B18EP camshaft
But still the stock-motorblock
So lets see what we can get out of it
