New Volvo owner needs advice

Hi there I'm new to the Volvo world picked this up on the weekend it's mint 1.4 340 4speed , but just abit slow I wanna use it for abit of sliding it's already welded and lowered but in the dry it's hard to kick out , what engine is direct swap , I know the Clio Williams engine and r5t engine go in with some work but ideally just like a straight swap or just a way to squeeze more power out of this and will the gearbox be able to take the extra power

Nice car! The 1.4's are not as easy to swap engines in as the 2.0 360. It is possible though, many here have done it.

The gearbox can take up to 250hp/300nm.. after that things go wrong very easily. Problem is the 1.4 driveshaft, which can't handle a lot.
