Update!

Post by Andy P » 06 Apr 2009 10:18 am

I've not had a chance to work on the car recently until the weekend just gone so apologies for slow progress :( . I had really hoped that I'd be able to fire it up this weekend but as per usual the job that was to take a couple of hours took most of the weekend!!!

I've modified the inlet manifold so the TB is at the other end and capped of the gaping hole that was left. No pictures of this because it needs a bit of a tidy up first!! Oh I also replaced the 1.4 rad for a thicker, non leaky 1.7 rad.

I've also modified the downpipe and finished the exhaust!! Pics of the finished product below :D

Side exits = win, im going to "try" and do side exits on mine over the summer, as the over axel part is such a pita.

Looking good man, Cant wait to see it in action.

I got a side exit on mine, but it's pointing at the back wheel if you get me. It's not as exposed as that. I wish it was. Lovely car son!

Cheers for the replys guys! Makes the hours rolling about on the driveway f'ing and blinding almost worthwhile!!!

Theres very little to do now, the current list -

- Plumb coolant system
- Tidy up inlet manifold and fit.
- fit fuel pumps and plumb in fuel system (swirlpot)
- fit 1.7 clutch cable
- fit throttle cable
- fit engine loom and wire up
- start the car!

Then theres a few little odds and ends that need sorting out before I'll send it for an MOT-

- Adjust front ride height so it sits level (possibily a tad lower because I plan to go down a bit more on the back)
- Fix springs so they remain captive!
- fit 1.7 clocks with rev counter
- adjust alarm (far too sensitive!)
- replace a blown indicator bulb
- sand cam cover so the paint is flat (it looked awesome when it was painted but I had to pop out and I put a cover over it not realising the paint was still tacky :( )
- fix indicator/wiper stalk bracket

Theres probably loads more things that I've forgotten about that need doing too.

Thanks again for the comments! Muchos appreciated :)

Mid week update!

Post by Andy P » 08 Apr 2009 08:47 am

Two updates in just a few days! There must be something wrong....

Please excuse the enormous number of pictures of the same thing below  I couldn't really see it too well on the camera screen in the bright sun so I took a few more than normal!

Yes I know its been done but I had been planning on doing this before I saw xtrmjks' car! I've also mounted it slightly differently - to the underside rather than the front face. Didn't require trimming to its width however the angle grinder did come out

Hope you all likes! :D

Good shot man.
It does look a lot different to Jonni's so i thought it might be something completley different.
Looks cool though andy. And bespoke.

Well, had a week off work to get the car finished, running and MOT'd. Those that may have read my other thread will already know this was not the case!

I have put in a lot of work over the week (although it dosent feel like I've got much done :( ) but theres not too much to show for it unfortunately. I did however drop the front a bit more (quite a bit!) to level the car out and now it just looks awesome!

I've only got some frontal shots of it at the moment but I'll try and get a side view so you can see how it sits. The front valance will sit a bit lower when the car is on level ground (the rear wheels are on a slope).

Enjoy -

Well last night... IT STARTED!!!! :D

...And then cut out - but I was expecting this. Basically I've found what the problem is for sure. I squirted a healthy amount of fuel into the inlet manifold and it started up first time. The problem being that the injectors are not firing - but I've discovered why now.

Basically I had hard wired my fuel pump to a switch so had not bothered with wiring the fuel pump relay - not realising that the fuel pump relay also provides the injectors with +12v... no wonder they've not been doing anything!

Anyhow - at the moment this is all theory (just been tracing through wire diagrams to see if I had dropped a bollock somehwere along the line) so hopefully if I've got the time tonight I'll wire it up properly and take it for its maiden voyage!!! Very excited!

Whatever you do dont wire the injectors to a positive feed otherwise they will just be open permenently. You ideally want to run the fuel pump from the relay too with the starting signsl otherwise the pump will be running constantly and be worse for you economy.
