Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
I can probably find one, yeah. The GLS I have for scrap probably has one.
The ventilation system in the mk1 (with the late mk1 / early mk2 dash) is really, really bad at keeping you cool compared with the later cars...but I don't know about the heater. Whether that's the heater box or the vent layout inside the car, I'm not sure. The acid test would be to compare a late mk1 / early mk2 (early box, early dash) with a normal mk2 (early box, late dash) and a mk3 (late box, late dash).
cheers
James

Sure that isn't because you only drive it in the summer and now used to aircon in the S70?

Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
James, while you're on the look out for old-type heater boxes, maybe you could keep an eye out for a heater valve for me? Mine on the 343 is always slightly on - bad in winter and bad in summer!

Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
Well yes, potentially...although I still say the ventillation is rubbish compared with the kick-ass mk3s I've had.
Sure, Tom. I'm not sure if that GLS will have it or not, but I'll certainly pull it for you. I'm sure you did tell me what the difference was, but I can't remember...
cheers

Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
Thanks, James ... From memory, either the input or output end of the valve is bent around at a right angle whereas the later versions are "straight through". The biggest problem will be getting to it, IIRC.foggyjames wrote:Sure, Tom. I'm not sure if that GLS will have it or not, but I'll certainly pull it for you. Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
Right, some updates
Still not quite on top of the pinking issue, though have sorted a million things on the way to getting there. Lumpy idle fixed by abusing the idle solanoid with a half can of carb cleaner, and various wiring has been tweaked. I'm still dubious of the ECU, but havn't been able to change that yet, still getting *very* hot air into the air intake too. But, on the plus side, no matter what you do, she'll now start, idle, drive and everything else on the turn of the key, every time. That is more than my 1.7 managed
I havn't got a handle on how rapid the thing is yet apart from very. I also can't drive it anything like as well as I could but am slowly getting there. So, last Sunday I took her to the first autotest under Valver-technology. As per usual, I learnt more about how she behaved than any amount of road driving I could have done so was very chuffed, but did manage to get what is my worst result yet. Came 34 out of 37, 4th last!!! To give you a clue, the car that beat me was a very tweaked scoob, and he had the same problem I did and the same excuse... Neither of us managed to get *any* power down
Tbh, the major problem I found is I've almost been able to drive autotests by balancing the car on the throttle round corners until the apex, and hoofing it there after. I just can't do that now, I get a rolling burnout if I'm flat, or if the car is still leaning (I really need to fit my suspension) it just spins the inside. I am considering the day a huge sucess though, as *every* run I decreased my time by a significant margin, I really wish I could have had more than 6 runs. Times, in order, were:
1:18:36 1:17:01 1:15:45 1:15:03 1:13:29 1:12:87
As the course wasn't huge, to continually take that amount of time off on dry tarmac at least makes me feel like I'm getting more on top of the car. The reason I've taken so long to post about this is that I've been trying to master the youtubes, see below for the first (1:18) run, and the last much cleaner run (1:12).

Note on the first run the launch... she really is a Dutch Mustang and lifts the front of the car when accelerating hard
The start line bloke reckons he saw the chassis twist. I reckon he saw leaf spring wind up. I really hope he saw leaf spring wind up

Good videos mate! Damn it needs a quicker rack and an LSD though. I'd love to have a crack of that course in my Mx5
Chassis twist - nahhh... I vote leaf springs too!
EDIT: get them spax adjustables on the rear, it takes 20mins!!!

You still using your super sticky Bridgestones? Might find if you put too stiff shocks on the back you get less launching grip. I think Husky had that trouble.
Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
thats some nice driveing pal, your tests look a lot more organised than the ones we do up here mind, its funny watchin someone else try and do the million and 1 turns lock to lock in a 300 on a auto test, first thing ma lass said after she watched my first test was that I looked like a hamster it a wheel
