pipercams, and not a regrind but brandnew :), the adjustable crank pulley is also pipercams

the knock sensor is original 5GTT, it mounts somewhere on the left side of the engine; i don't know where it goes precisely since i still have to go through the 5GTT technical info on this..

testfitted the new GT on the old manifold
Image

Image

it even looks better than the T2 does

then tried on the stainless manifold and placed it on that (turbo wrong way round though)
Image

shame it won't fit like this, it does look pretty :(

but... there's only one thing i can do about it
Image

byebye 10 year warranty.. must have been the most expencive brandnew piece yet i had to cut in pieces before it could be used  now, let's order some more parts...

well again i've been shopping parts and a whole lot of stuff is on it's way!

including a real deal 3rd generation HKS SSQV, sequential valve is practically essential for the boost i'm gonna run it on..
for those who don't know these, it's gonna sound like this when it's installed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS51X98_BGQ

i've also ordered the special "high frequency" fin with it to make it sound even harder

other stuff is a few gaskets, V-band clamps for the exhaust line, front calipers (wilwood 4pot), valve springs/timing chain tensioner, a few turbo related parts including this new oil feed nipple with ø1mm restrictor

Image

and, brake discs :D
Image

wanted to see how it would go on at the rear so started taking an axle apart
Image

testfitting on the rear in a 15" rim
Image

pretty much sorted how i'm gonna mount the discs (not like on the pic though!) and now i started figuring out wich caliper i'm gonna use. possibly wilwood calipers too but single piston and preferred without mechanical handbrake

depending on the capacity of the main brake cylinder i'll ditch the original brake reducer valve and place an adjustable valve on the line from main cylinder to the rear + hydraulic handbrake in the same line

if the main cylinder does not have enough capacity, i'll probably build a twin cylinder brake bias system.

i've also started on welding the manifold, first i had a little practice with TIG welding stainless tubing as i never done that before. the day before that i welded some stainless so i just preheated the test tubes, started welding (without the gloves); instantly burned a big hole in it and got shocked by a negative pulse wich also burned the electrode  my dad welded 10mm aluminium a few hours before and i swapped the electrode but forgot to reset the machine to 40A DC

then finally welded the joint and was pretty happy with the weld. untill i looked inside the tube, big black corroded mess... i'll have to make a backing-gas system to solve that, so also have to purchase a second Argon gas bottle at the welding store :( all this will make it take a while longer but all should be good when it's finally done!!!

and it was pretty dawm expensive too....

progress:

Image

funny thing is; i don't know if it will fit  especcially the T3 wastegate is a problem to size up... i'll drop the engine in as soon as it stops raining here for a testfit (only the 7th time in 2 days!!!!)

just testfitted it; really pleased with the way it sits.

Image

Image

the 3" downpipe is spot-on
Image

only thing i'm a bit worried about is the T3 actuator

Image

Image

i'll have to make a kinda difficult S type bracket to get the actuator mounted a bit in front of the compressor housing as in those last pics..

but first things first; the other runners, because i'm nowhere near a finished manifold yet :D

2nd one is on, that went well

Image

the last 2 are the hardest; with just about everything (especcially the starter) in the way...

my dad even sayd why not ditch the starter and connect a rope to the flywheel

and another round of pics:

Image

Image

went well, enough room for the starter :D

in 5 minutes or so i'm gonna find out whether it still fits the engine bay; would be funny, a whole day of welding and looking for nothing

turning the housings in the right position:

and finished for now:

tomorrow i'm gonna start with the oil return pipe, actuator bracket and maybe some other bits. when i'm happy with everything i'll drop the engine in one last time as a last testfit before i completely weld the manifold.
