o dont worry i found problems on saterday morning, oil return decided to play up and it dumped all its oil before i had tome to realise :( smokeing like a mofo! really really hope its just the oil seals i the turbo, gonna make sure it dont happen again, gonna have a play about with the mount so the pipe dosent rub on it, getting some steel braided hose, any looking into getting the pipe that pushes into the sump welding because its a stupid idea to be pushed in imo, thats what you get for repairing the car at 1am to get it to a track day the same day i suppose, fuk me i only made it to the shop to get some food, made me laugh when i whent out in my 340 though as you can follow the oil from the shop to my house

The push-in oil return works well enough in the 940 as long as you have an intact rubber seal. Obviously not much good though though if you use the 360 engine mounts. You just need to hold the pip in place then it will work well, so maybe a bracket bolted to clutch housing, or epoxy?

yea thats the problem on the 360 as you have to mod the oil return so it isnt a solid pipe like on the 940, that could be an idea pal, i will have a look, reason i was thinking of getting it welded is because i would never have to worry about it again but we will see,

anyone on here got any expirience rebuilding turbos?

new i should have got a propper video while it was fuking running lol

cheers

Re: my b230fk into a 360 build thread, need help from turbo

Post by wiganer31 » 13 Mar 2012 05:14 pm

need adviseing again lol, on what to do with the oil return? think the reason it poped out was i cut the pipe to long so it wasnt pushed in as tight as it could have been
Image
im thinking just buy some braided hose and redo it like i did at first? but maybe put epoxy putty/quick steel round the bit going into the bloc so it cant come back out again?
the pipe i was useing:
Image
Image
around 16mm id,
now damage it could have caused? the car is smoking its ring off (technical term for the exhaust pumping more smoke out than before), im hopeing just the oil seals in the turbo? there is abit of oil in the turbo/boost pipes:

oil cap seems clean:

if it is the oil seals in the turbo could i still drive it till the turbo has been rebuilt or replaced? or would it cause more damage? worth doing a compression test on the engine?

cheers

Oil after the turbo on the inlet side is normal. Have you maybe just blocked the return or something?

Is it smoking on full boost or all the time? If it is the turbo, probably not that bad but may gum up the plugs or damage the o2 sensor.

The hole in the block is different to the pipe to allow space for the rubber seal, do you have the seal?

Never tried a rebuild myself, usually pay someone £350 to do it.

the pipe had split and i replaced it and it poped out while i was driveing, yea i had the seal in, i havent drove it since i saw the smoke and thats when i noticed the piupe had come out and lost loads of oil, itr was smokeing on tick over i think, need to sort the oil return out and then i can try it proper, what hose should i use for oil? theres this on ebay but it isnt actually rubber http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MotorSports-1 ... 2819wt_860

ive got some stainless steel braided hose comeing and im gonna try and modifie/smooth were it was rubbing so hopefully that will be ok? as for the push in bit i think im just going to order another seal for it then quick steel it in place to hopefully stop it popping out again? then time to see what damage has been done :| any feedback on the problem and my fix idea welcome?

takeing so long as been haveing problems with my daily 340 (hopefully todays work has fixed that)

cheers

I would drill & tap the oil return hole in the block and fit a suitable brass or AN fitting for the hose.

Is your crank case ventilation ok? If it's blocked, the pressure building in the crank case will find it's way on to the turbo oil return and it will blow the oil through the seals in to the exhaust, because of the restricted return flow.

hmm its a good idea tbh but not sure im comfortable drilling and tapping the block yet without trying something that i cant fuck up

got my braided hose over the weekend so going to have a go at sorting the oil return out tomorrow and then fireing it up and see what damage has been done,
also picked up some really cheap buckets, abit dirty and tatty as fuck but paid peanuts and there only for the track wagon so not arsed
