Pyro's Project 360 - ball joints -
Re: Pyro's Project 360
right told landog sorted but back to college now. but im going to order some bits once i know what i want.
So, how stiff is the standard volvo suspension, not sure how that should be answerd, and how stiff would it be if it was double stiffness? ill be getting new shock or cheapo gas ones for now off the bay.
im going to try find a scrapped 340/60 to nab the rear leaves to double leave her. im thinking inch lower than it is now, all round and stiffer.
oh yeah, how would one go about sorting out the tappets as it sounds like diesel on a cold morning!
thanks - ben

Re: Pyro's Project 360
Just ordered springs and blocks from Dai, and a gasket set from mac, off home now to theoretically get a start on taking rusty bits off! (if the landy doesn't have a tantrum again!)

Re: Pyro's Project 360
Got a good start today, managed to get 1 strut out, and the second is in progress.

the underneath isn't in bad shape, though the bar that the arb mounts to is a bit sketchy, and could do with rebuilding/having the ends refabricated and welded.
also got the cooling fan mounted, should clear enough for the hella grille aswell!!

think the fan is off of a landrover 90, seems to give out enough puff so should be ok.

going alright so far, nothing has been too stuborn to come off!!
Ben
edit - other strut out! the arb bar is pretty mangled on both sides

Re: Pyro's Project 360
Had a spurt of boredom after a few pints of stella act-a-twat. got the arb bar, and the arb off. pretty poor state, not sure if its better to rebuild it or get a 'new' one. ideas? its passed my welding skill (ie ive yet to learn!)

on the up side the arb cant be twisted by hand, so thats still good, the bushes look newish. and the rest of the 'chassis' looks spotless, except for a spot of welding on the os sill.
ive had a play with the arb links (giggty) and the ball joints are jerky and pretty stiff so a new set will be orderd come tuesday, along with bottom ball (easy vnd!) joints if i can make pages understand!
Ben

Re: Pyro's Project 360
Second strut came out last night, not managed to get some spring compressors so that my next task. took the wishbones and radius arms out and gave them a going over with a wire wheel and a flap wheel thingy. all seems good no major corrosion.

also got some of the wiring done for the fan and test fitted the hella grille, and it fits yay!!!

Re: Pyro's Project 360
rebuilt the radius arms and wishbones with new ball joints, the track rod ends are impossible to get off so think thats a job for the garage when it goes in for mot. just need to get my finger out and write a cheque for dai!

and as proof -

it fits!!!

Re: Pyro's Project 360
I've got some plus inch 220lb front springs if they're any good for ya.
For a 360 got them from the Welshman but never fitted.
Can't see me using them anytime soon.

Re: Pyro's Project 360
having thought about it lowering 1'' probably aint the best plan, so a return to normal ride height, (which i assume that will be close too!) would be good for motorways which is where itll spend most of its time!
where abouts are you man, and whats the chances of getting them couriered/meeting you half way for a bit of dodgy dealing?!

cant get to work on the back yet as i have only 2 axel stands, and no second leaves yet. though it will be done asap, need to get her on the road asap due to doing lots of long journey in the landy recently! my hearing could do with a break, and my wallet for that matter!
