Re: Anjo's Project Car: 1986 340GT Special, B14Turbo
here's todays progress:
took the turbo off

because i forgot..

to drill a hole in it

for the EGT sensor

after that, turbo got back on

cut a few bends to a 45degree angle

tacked the first bit of downpipe together

got the car up to working height

exhaustline up to working height

and these are ment to go together eventually

spot-on!

downpipe all tacked up;

and then the welding:

AFR sensor bung

all done:

3" solid bracket

2,5" bracket for mounting in rubber rings

just for laughs

more tomorrow after work

I approve of those welds! Fantastic work! Man, wish I could weld.

some work on the shortshifter

had the wrong pair of pliers to get the lockring back in, or it would've been done
and i made a plate to hold the fuelpump and filter

The good work continues. I always know we're in for a treat when my computer takes ages to download the page! We have a poor broadband speed here despite being on the edge of a big town.

shortshifter = done

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_JNOIbtedk
downpipe,

remaining exhaust + bracket for fuelpump/filter mounted

cut the tailpiece a bit different

and on with the engine..

it's coming together quite well, need to make a few more stainless steel bits and bobs before assembly can continue. nearly there,. well. for now atleast

Really cool. BTW, why do you have a CAT on the exhaust? Did holland have CATs as standard quite early on?

Re: Anjo's Project Car: 1986 340GT Special, B14Turbo
huh, why do you think that
? i doesn't have a CAT and will never get one. the round flange is for a V-band clamp, just like the one behind the turbo. i prefer those clamps over traditional bolted ones or sliding 2 tubes over eachother and clamp them. the tailpiece is with the 2 tubes sliding over eachother, but eventually the exhaust is going to the rear with that huge fartcan welded to it, if i find more time lol.
in holland CAT became stock on 300's from modelyear 88 due to the law but now depending on the code on the vehicle's papers you are allowed to remove it if the car's older than 19xx (i thought 1991 but i'm not sure on that, those rules change every few years...)

Great work, as ever ...
I'm stuck with my cat here unfortunately ... A (3-way) cat's really important in Germany for tax and city admission

Re: Anjo's Project Car: 1986 340GT Special, B14Turbo
done a bit more assemblywork..

was very pissed when i found out i forgot to order a hose nipple for the turbo oil feed, now i'm waiting for the Royal Mail to get it here
would've started the car up on wednesdayevening if i had the chance..
and started on what's going to connect to these hoses;

piece of stainless rectangular tube to start with

with a piece of sheetmetal that's an inch shorter than the tube and slot in at an 3D angle, cut to size

welded in place

endcap welded on

and here's the idea..

breatherhose goes into the top chamber, the plate is at such an angle that condensed oil will drip down to the lower chamber; at the back of the tube all goes around the corner to the lower chamber, where at the bottom corner of the lower chamber the oil can run back to the sump, and at the top corner of the lower chamber the sumpvapor wich by now should be free of oil can vent to the open air. there's going to be a filter in the lower chamber to further enhance the separation of oil and air to make it as efficient as possible
i've cleaned the welds with a wire brush, shiny eh

finishing this tomorrow, hopefully along with the throttle cable and final bits of coolant hoses. after that it's only a matter of installing the gauges and that dawm oil feed before i can start ripping the bricks out of the road again
