Fake - F7R Motorsport Daily
Re: Fake - F7R Motorsport Daily
I would say its the torque difference between the two engines that made them go to the tt!
Also chris I drove up to Southampton last night, yours roads are the worse condition roads I've ever been on! Potholes everywhere!!

This reminds me that I should really do something with the "other" bent one. This one pictured above is now straight and sitting outside my front door. Taunting me.Chris_C wrote:![]()

the 343/345 DLS and GLS were the first production 300's with the torquetube fitted, modelyear 81 and had 95bhpChris_C wrote: This is the same period of manufacture that Volvo went from 3 torque tube bearings to 2. I reckon they tried it with both then when the prop proved to be able to cope, went with that. It must have been so close to the line though, they decided the 360GLS needed a TT when released (I believe the GLS was the first 360 out?) with it's huge 92/95bhp. The 1.7 books at 85bhp, so in that 10horses they decided it was too much.

They'd be more concerned about torque so we should be comparing thosevolvodspec wrote:the 343/345 DLS and GLS were the first production 300's with the torquetube fitted, modelyear 81 and had 95bhpChris_C wrote: This is the same period of manufacture that Volvo went from 3 torque tube bearings to 2. 150Nm @ 3500rpm (from 1983 and on the B19A had 152Nm @ 3200rpm), B19E (115bhp) did 160Nm @ 3500rpm

Re: Fake - F7R Motorsport Daily
It's all very well fitting a torque tube to the F7 as that will cure the prop shredding, but don't forget you'll need to brace the TT against the block otherwise it'll rip the bellhousing in half (something you've already experienced using a more forgiving prop). That is unless you use a B19/200 bellhousing with an adapter to fit the Renault block, but even then I doubt the Redblock bellhousing is rated to take the extra torque that the F7 (and for that matter any B23/200ft/200B conversions) put out.
Terms and conditions apply. This post may go down as well as up. Regulated by the Financial Services Authority. Hard hats to be worn. No reversing without a banksman. No admittance to unauthorized persons. Stop that. Put that down. Leave that alone.

Re: Fake - F7R Motorsport Daily
It is the prop failing that causes the bellhousing to crack. Its caused by the prop when failed chucking the engine up and down and side to side as the engine spins

Re: Fake - F7R Motorsport Daily
I disagree Dai, I've seen it when the prop has been fine but the system was out of alignment, it's why I first made the laserizer.
With the 340 setup (i.e. 8 points of contact between the engine/gearbox and the shell) and knackered engine mounts, it's possible. With the 360 setup (4 points of contact between the engine/gearbox and the shell, i.e. two each) you are exaggerating it. The B200 has a completely different bolt patten on the engine block to bellhousing face when compared to the B172k, Rupert is correct to flag it.
Luckily, I think a solution is gained in one of the 4 custom pieces I mentioned above.

Are you saying you have seen a broken bellhousing but the prop has been ok?

Re: Fake - F7R Motorsport Daily
Yup, the one I did. The broken bell housing bent (actually bent the ali tube, not ripped the rubber etcetc, it was a *very* nice one before this happened) my prop in the couple of seconds of reducing speed with roughly square wheels (i.e. until I managed to smack it out of gear into neutral). That was when I realised the alignment was key, with rubber that wasn't old and didn't flex as much, it directly loaded the aluminium casting and caused the crack.

Re: Fake - F7R Motorsport Daily
That is interesting. It is still the force produced from wrong alighnment that has caused the problem. Will be interesting to see what you come up with.
Are we talking faster than normal Chris time scale for this?
