Can you beg/borrow/steal an engine crane? I'd imagine most of the ancilleries are off already then you can do it in the comfort of the open.
99% sure it's not moved any further forward than it should but its deffo worth checking. Yeah i think i can, only the downpipe is off really. This was what i was saying yesterday to me dad, be a load easier working with the engine out the car. If i can't get things working today i'll try and persue that route, spent 5 days in the mud and nettles, i'll take a photo today lol

Not yet, i will try that today.

Hey Matt,

You know I got an engine crane as well you can borrow.
Good luck with what you are doing!

Well no further on the bellhousing because i got distracted by a delivery this morning... 4 Khumo Ecsta k11's 175/55/15 which I got fitted with a new valve and balanced (with weights on the back this time) ready for a paint in the morning. Also painted a few brackets and heatsheilds that have come off the car. Tomorrow I'm taxi-ing to the airport at 4am so will have a nice long day to try and sort the car out. Might have to wait till next week to get it back together as the new clutch I have is currently in storage elsewhere. Must be worth replacing it and penetrating oil won't have done the one that's in much good lol

The spline could twisted if you have put all that effort in, have you tried a puller? it might work if its only slightly twisted

i have no puller :( gonna chop it down and hopefully it should release the bellhousing, then i'm just going to replace the whole clutch

Chopped it down but still not enough. So we undid the pressure plate off the flywheel but unfortunately the prop remained stuck - in the flywheel or some bearing in the middle or something - i'll see what it looks like on diagrams. Not looking good though. We think the only way will be to either drop the subframe and then engine down or pull the engine out, neither of which i have adequate facilities for - atchi very kindly says i may lend his engine crane but where the car is at the mo, i have no solid ground or floor space :/ Thinking i may have to enlist the help of a garage and their low-loader to get thecar back on the road. The corsa is nearing the end of its life too, a big bang feels very imminent

Hella grille arrived in the post today though, need to relocate the oil cooler lol

Hey Matt,

I do have flywheel pullers as well as an engine crane.
You may just need to lay a ply wood or something like that to use an engine crane. Then again are you taking out your engine and need to move?
I think you will just lift engine and tilt little bit so you are thinking too critical here!

If you dont plan to move the engine around then the crane should be fine on the gravel as long as its steady, there shouldnt be anything between the the clutch plate and the flywheel

It's not on gravel, its on mud :( And there is pretty much no room round the car to put the crane, a trolley jack is tricky enough to get where you want it. It's about the worst place to work on a car :/ Reckon the prop's gone through the clutch plate and into the pilot bearing in the fly.

Will re-asses the situation tomorrow and work out what to do.

Starting to think of buying another and transferring all the good bits and the new gearbox/LSD to that :? Not that i have room for 3 cars, i don't really have room for the 2 i have

So today me and my mate dean went and helped mattywatsit with front dampers and springs and in doing so we used my spring compressors (obv. lol) but this sparked an idea of how to remove the prop from my bellhousing, and gave me motivation off seeing his car. So my idea, in the best way i can explain things is as follows:

Image

What do we reckon?

Also started thinking of the telemetry project and the temprature sensor i have to play with. I want to monitor diff, engine (pre and post cooler) and g/box oil and coolant temps. So to d this i need sensors mounted in various positions. The sensor i have looks like a transistor. This poses a few problems as you can't just stick the thing in the oil, and the wires need to find a way to the sensor too. So the idea here is, drill and tap a 1/8 NPT thread (might not need to be tapered) into the various casings that hold the fluids and use one of the little angled pipes I bought, pictures needed:

Image

They have 1/8 NPT male and female threads on either end. Then mount the sensor, using 2-part epoxy or similar, as follows:

Image

If i can work out how to use the sensor with the programming side of the project, I'll crack on with the hardware side while the diff and g/box is off the car :)

Thanks for looking, an feedback for the prop idea would be brilliant - help me get my volvo to the meet :D

The prop idea is a good one! its basically a puller, i worry the plate may slip if the prop is stuck, so maybe attach it to the bar? If theres enough room you could grind some notched into the prop and hit these notches with a coal chisel, that maybe abit eaiser and quicker but maybe less effective than your "puller+"

Cheers, we've thought it might crack the bellhousing with pushing against it so not gonna risk it. Aye i might try the notch+chisel idea or as Jak said on facebook a slide hamer, which i never thought of. Will have a go at the notch thing first as i don't own a slide hammer or much money at the moment. Once it's out i reckon it will only take a day to get everything back on. There is still hope for the V3M meet :)

Hella grille is now gloss black and awaiting a volvo badge, oil cooler needs re-locating but i have ideas, Wheels cleaned ready for re-paint where the weights came off.

Matt,

Again, I have a slide hammer!
All I say is ask first, as I have many tools you need. I will say that you will need to lift engine a bit to create more space for you work on.
I thought you can unbolt the pressure plate then the bell housing.

Cheers

Nice one Atchi, might have to borrow it off you :D I'm hoping not to move the engine, Really all i need is the prop out even if the bellhousing doesn't come off. We have got the pressure plate off
