Fake - F7R Motorsport Daily
Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
I'd would... if we could find somewhere to do it I wouldn't mind trying to organise it. Club membership for insurance might be an issue, but if we can find a venue I could possibly work something out for that. Grass is best as it doesn't wear out tyres, and you need a heck of a lot more control
Though a big expanse of tarmac is also good.

I believe someone in the DAF club has some sort of connection with Princethorpe, so it may have been done with "insurance"...

Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
As this is a kinda Fake project thread...
I gave in... I actually started on the sills today. Mot is T-10 days, next 12-car is T-9 days. She is pretty much required for the 12car, though me and Rich (my housemate/nav) have done enough to win the Uni championship this year I've 3 points less than Rich (Fake getting 5 wins so far out of 6 entries, the last one I got a bit ambitious with a white road in the snow
), and if I hadn't done the sills I was intending on taking all the pretty bits off and giving her a good send off. Sense has prevailed!
Pictures
Doesn't look took bad apart from the scab

However, underneath, we can see when it's split

So, cut an inspection hatch where the rear quarter panel overlaps the sill. I really wasn't expecting to see metal here.

It is rusting out the rear arch from inside the sill, as shown here

But the bellows is still intact
It's just the rear skin thats gone, from the floorpan done to the very bottom of the sill seam

So, to make some room to cut out the rear skin, the leaf was removed, as was the exhaust (note the quite frankly silly angle the jacking point is at, that is supposed to be straight!)

Neaten up the end, cutting out the rubbish. Note the bellows still intact apart from nearest 1/2", and the bottom of the rear skin not being there

So, not as bad as I thought!

So I'm guessing you don't want me to send you dollar for the Vega rims
Always a happy occasion. I reeeeeally need to get on with clearing out the garage, hooking up the Murex and getting involved with the welding. I bought it almost 3 years ago. It's pretty embarrassing...
cheers

My sills were just as bad Chris, don't worry about it. Just take it one step at a time and make sure you get down to good metal, even if it means scaring yourself at how much you're chopping out. This reminds me, I need to buy a better MIG.

Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
Nah... Rich set the event so me and another driver got together. Being the non navigating type, we saw a white road (white on OS map, what the landy boys would call a green lane) that we thought was on the route (it had been cut out the route after the scouting landy took 15mins to get along it...). I knew I couldn't make it over the snow to get to it on my tyres, so spun round to get a run up....volvosneverdie wrote:good shooting on the placings as well man. I was expecting to see worse mate, having seen some sill pics on here before! Oscars will be going on once I have MOT sorted. Fake is undergoing a few changes, which saddens me some, I like hella grills. But, lots of new shiney motorsport related goodness will be added.sven360 wrote:I'm no Bergerac but I'd hasten a guess at you being a glass half full type of chap Chris.

I'm not decided on the Vega's tbh, I don't like the look of them as much as the Haas, and Fake will most likely be back on 14's soon, the handling just isn't right on 15's. Having said that, whilst it isn't as fun, it's a damn sight more grippy. I might keep them if thats okfoggyjames wrote:So I'm guessing you don't want me to send you dollar for the Vega rims

Thats the plan mate! Compared to my inner wings on Kar, this is looking quite simple. All flat metal, and the one part I though wouldn't be there (the bellows) is.filthyjohn wrote:My sills were just as bad Chris, don't worry about it. Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
Good crack man.
You sound re-enthused and like youre enjoying yourself.
Wasnt long ago you were talking about the possibility of abandoning 300s.
Glad the mojos worked back in dude.
this is good news.

Re: My first motorsport trophy :D
I don't think I'd abandon them, just sometimes tempted to have something else as well as 1 instead of the 2. Thing is, I need to see how the turbo drives, so can't get rid of that, and the plans in the background for Fake could well make her unsellable (both because it should be a pretty damn good driving machine, and because I'll have reduced the target market to stage rallying Volvo drivers
)
So, I might as well get used to the idea that I'm going to own them both for a while yet and if that is going to happen, I might as well stop complaining and fix the bloody things!

Hehe, I think if you'd listened at the start then you'd have known that white road was cut...Chris_C wrote: Nah... Rich set the event so me and another driver got together.
