Good luck with the wheel bearing.

I measured up the suspension. 85mm from the bottom of the welded thread collar to the bottom lock ring. Spring free length is 200mm.

Cheers mate, Now I know what I've gotta get and have a good idea where the collar's getting welded on.

Finger's crossed the wheel bearing change goes smoothly and i get my car back the same day I leave it :)

What size collar did you get? 2.5"? do you need to make a sleeve? as when I bought my kit the ID of the collar was greater then the OD of strut tube.

aye 2.5" so there is about a 3-5mm difference in diameter, same with yours? I just had a rumage in the shed and found some odd bits of exhaust pipe, found the one that fitted between the two. So a section 30mm longer than the collars on each strut, seam welded both ends, then the collar welded to that. should be fine. Trick I've found in teh past when welding tubes to other tubes is that if you wrap electrical tape around the inner one in 2 places then slide the other over, it stays perfectly centred if you get a snug fit :)

Not all that sure about doing it myself, mainly because I use gassless and have heard this is weaker than when using gas. Not a problem for most things but for one of the biggest loaded suspension parts ... i may pay someone to do it.

All this is in the future somewhere, i'm skint and am still paying for my diff

Ye I had that issue, that kinda stalled it because I wanted to get someone to make the inserts up but couldn't afford it, since then it dropped significantly in priority, my student loan never has enough spare :(. I wouldn't really want to use the exhaust piece though or certainly put some research in to be sure, exhausts are never made out of the best steel and as its safety critical I'd want to look a bit further, but perhaps it will be good enough though.

I noticed the same ID - OD issue with the Rally Design style collars. So now they're living on some Frankenstein rear beam my mate had made for his mk1 XR2.

IMO, definitley have them welded on by a pro, with a good welder. As for the difference, CDS tube is what I would use. As you say, it's a safety critical part!

Aye I'll get it welded at this 4x4 place I know then, they are used to doing safety critical stuff (they build roll cages) so they can sort it lol.

Car came out the garage with one fixed wheel bearing :) extra 50 miles on the clock and less petrol but I'm chuffed it's fixed. Not sorted gearlinkages yet though. I did get a genuine volvo accessory for it which is rather cool...

Need some ratchet straps so i can carry stuff on it and 4 big fogs on the front haha

still loads of bits and bobs to sort throughout the car and the coilies and brakes to do but i'm close to getting it 100% functioning :)

Thanks for looking,
Matt

I like the roofrack! :D what's up with your grill though :? gives the car a very different look to me :P

Good to see it finally coming back together and that you got the wheel bearing done, 50 extra miles? where the fuck had they been? perhaps they all had a go in the car.

Aye I reckon they've had a bit of a play with it lol

Cheers, I love it me. Every volvo me dad's had while i was young always had a roofrack so it seemed strange having a volvo without one haha. Bought some cheap fogs off ebay for it too :)

The big bar behind the bumper is a bit bent, don't ask how lol. Makes the grille stick out over it and gives a gap under the headlights. That needs sorting like

Dude that looks AWESOME!!! Love that last shot through the window too. Nice weather is upon us!! Love where you've put the CB aerial too. Whole car looks fantastic, just use a hammer on that bent bit.

cheers :D

Yeah, gonna hammer it out when both bumpers come off to do all the rust and a few paint touchups. CB mounts flimsy as anything at the mo, its a pre-drilled thin ali strip you get for fitting radios lol. Last wheel is now black and the whole exhaust is standard and quiet for the first time in about 2 years lol. Looking forwards to doing 'nice' jobs on the car like fitting the CB radio, prettying bits up, and building all the new front suspension and brake off the car :)
