Project T5 360.
Re: Project T5 360.
Been a while...
But I come with good news. The adapter plate, gauges, bov, wastegate and turbo timer arrived from klracing today.
Also we built a little table thingy in the garage for space and something to work on (No more squatting on the ground, yay!)
Aand few weeks ago I picked up another rear end..
Now starts the joy of mounting the bellhousing up to the engine and fixing up the mounts

Re: Project T5 360.
You found a spare gearbox... in oz?? Fair play man Glad to see there is more progress on this
Re: Project T5 360.
Yeah man, it was in the east but still $450 for a rear end ain't bad hey?
Re: Project T5 360.
Another update.
Firstly let me apologize for the long break since my last post.
I've been trying to source the last of my parts needed, and came pretty close to giving up..
I got quoted $1300 AUD for a flywheel by Volvo, so I decided to do some searching again... With my luck I found a company in England that do custom clutch applications and flywheels. They had a lightweight flywheel in stock, and I'm getting a custom clutch kit with a ceramic plate done up by them, all with shipping for less than the flywheel from Volvo
Since April I've got my hands on a Walbro 255lph fuel pump and a Turbosmart 800 Fuel pressure regulator that will also work as a return for the fuel system..
As for the turbo I'll keep that a secret for now but it was cheap as chips for brand new.
No pictures at the moment but some will be coming up when the clutch kit and the flywheel arrive.
Cheers.

Hi mate.
Can't wait to see the end result of this.
Cheers Mark.

Re: Project T5 360.
Getting close now.
The panel for the gauges is almost in, just have to rivet some sheet metal behind so it doesn't push in too far. It's black plastic, there's just a paper cover on it.
Got the fuel pump almost in, just need an inlet fitting and some 12mm hose from the pre pump filter to the inlet.
Also the clutch kit and flywheel arrived today. It was like christmas when I walked in through the front door after work
The spline was a bit tight though.. Wouldn't go in by hand. Hopefully I can get it to loosen up a bit
More updates coming up in the near future.
Cheers

Re: Project T5 360.
Got the clutch to fit, just had to file the input shaft spline a bit
No pictures at the moment but fuel pump is in and I've got a heap of parts on the way, then pictures be coming.
Also got a new mig/tig welder and a 200+ lph air compressor should be coming tomorrow.
Finally found bolts at a reasonable price too for the adapter plate as they were countersunk in 1.25 thread
Anyways another update and more pics in the next 2 weeks!
Cheers

Re: Project T5 360.
Can't wait to see this finished
Re: Project T5 360.
Having some delays with the exhaust manifold. Tried e-mailing the mob today for the second time so hopefully I'll hear back from them... Most other parts are here now so once we get the manifold heaps of pics and progress should start coming out.
Cheers

Re: Project T5 360.
Alright so I've been confirmed that the exhaust manifold should be on it's way. I've also picked up 2 clutch release bearings off ebay so they're coming too.
We've started on the de-rusting the windscreen area while we wait for the last of the parts to arrive.
Cheers

Re: Project T5 360.
Alrighty.
Got the bellhousing cut up and mounted on the weekend, and surprisingly enough it fit like a glove.
The cuts are pretty rough but it got the job done. Also I'm not too sure about the pipe as it doesn't go too far past the diaphragm, so luckily I have 2 new thrust bearings just in case we have to extend it.
Also the exhaust manifold came in the mail today. As I got home from work I was hyped as anything so I jumped straight into it without realizing that the turbo will sit the wrong way on it until I went to test fit it. Anyway I took a pic for you guys.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with that yet.. Maybe the bolt holes are symmetrical and I can flip it upside down and just let it hang off the manifold, hiding it a bit better too once the engine is in the car. I'm not even sure if that turbo will fit in the bay anyway
'Till next time -

Re: Project T5 360.
You'd be surprised how high it has to be in the bay before the bonnet doesn't shut chap. When I fitted this all up, I rang Dai (who'd made the manifold) to complain about how ridiculous it was, gave him a barrage of abuse and he just calmly said
"have you tried fitting the bonnet yet?"
"no, of course not, it's miles to high"
"go and fit the bonnet"
"it's pointless"
"go and fit the bonnet"
*Chris goes to fit bonnet*
*rings Dai back"
"Dai... erm.. it fits. Ta chap"

Re: Project T5 360.
I do remember that one well. In full fairness I did have concerns about clearance when we built it and a lot of trail fitting went into it.
I suspect you will find there is more than enough clearance when you come to fit it all into place

Re: Project T5 360.
Amid my rampage to slap the manifold on, I didn't realize it was going on upside down.. I mean who would've guessed the wastegate will sit on top of the manifold. So the turbo will face the right way and will be well hidden for legal purposes!
Other than that a pretty big derp on my part for not checking before I bolted it on

Re: Project T5 360.
Turbo, stuff, and more problems.
(that clearance)
(going to need an oil scavenge pump)
And that's the start of the engine mounts, which will hopefully be finished soon.
Sorry about the blurriness.. More to come soon though.
Cheers.
