Project T5 360.
Re: Project T5 360.
Pictures finally! (with a new camera )
I found the engine type, thanks for the help Adam.
Got the engine on a stand finally.
The rocker cover was glued on pretty tight (nothing a hammer couldn't fix).
Dirty rocker cover or what? considering it's only done 70 odd thousand kilometers.
Anyways I may have to put this engine back together as I rang ASV, (where I bought it from) who asked me if it would be ok to get another engine as getting an ECU and a harness for this engine would be difficult (no VIN number as it is japan import) so I agreed.
They will contact me soon hopefully. I told them it would have to be a 5 cylinder turbo engine, preferrably a B5254T as that is what the ECU is for, and it's from Australia so they should have the engine for it and harness handy.
All is presumptions though so I'm not saying anything yet, though I won't work on this engine anymore until I hear from them.
I'm not too wary of these engines but the B5254T has VVT on both camshafts so I figured it would be fairly good.
These massive delays this early on are fairly down-putting so to speak but I hope it will mean there won't be so much stalling later on!
Until next time;
I would love feedback, information and suggestions on how to go about things at all times.

Mmmmm this makes me want to get an engine in pieces
Re: Project T5 360.
haha yeah I've been waiting so long to get that rocker cover off... just makes me want to keep going but I have to wait to see if I have to exchange the engine or the ECU.. Sad to have everything on hold for so long but it'll pick up quickly when I have everything right to drop into the beastSpeedy88 wrote:Mmmmm this makes me want to get an engine in pieces
Re: Project T5 360.
Just a quick update...
No news of the replacement engine yet.. hopes up still.
I won't be getting many parts until july ish since it's my mate's 21st in June and I'm saving up for that.
Also a quick question:
Would the redblock - whiteblock adapter from KLRacing fit on a b5254T? : http://shop.klracing.se/cgi-bin/ibutik/ ... r&Visn=Std

Re: Project T5 360.
Yes, that adaptor fits.
Are you planning to change the engine to a 2.5T to match the ECU...? 2.3 ECUs aren't that hard to find, are they?!
cheers

It's not really the ECU, it's the harness. They cut them when they pull the engines out.. kinda silly in my opinion when new harnesses cost over 1000 euros (quoted from volvo in finland).
So they're sorting out a harness and engine (B5254T) and from what I've read the turbo is actually a part of the exhaust manifold? so I wouldn't need to get it tuned or anything but it wouldn't be pushing too much power but all that can be worked on down the track.
It's just difficult 'cause I go visit them and half the time the guy I talk to isn't there so they can't help me out and they're meant to be calling me but I haven't received a single phone call to date

Re: Project T5 360.
We're currently scrapping a 1998 C70 T5. Trouble is, I bet the harness is like a 940 - built into everything else, and it takes an age to remove it
The turbo is only built into the harness on very late models (new generation C30/S40/V50/C70, etc). On everything up to the mid 2000s or so, the manifold and turbo are separate.

Re: Project T5 360.
Ah yeah the harnesses usually are a pain.
I'm not sure what's happening with the engine that's why I haven't put it into pieces yet. I'm going to give them a call on Saturday to find out... They don't have a ECU for a T5 anyways.
I'm just wondering though, has anyone tried to fit one of those Eaton g80 lockers into a 360 before? I saw a topic on it before but it didn't really clarify anything so I thought I'd ask here before ordering one

Re: Project T5 360.
The G80 bolts into the crownwheel on a 940 diff, which is closely based on the Dana 30 in the 240. These are, I believe, significantly larger than the ones on a 300. I intend to take my next 'spare' diff apart and cannibalise it with a view to getting dimensions for this purpose...

Re: Project T5 360.
I've seen a 240 limited slip in a 360 but the bolts were grinded all the way down that's why I was wondering since the G80 fits 240s and the guy who's selling them says they fit "all" rear wheel volvo models.

Re: Project T5 360.
There are pictures out there of a 240 diff with ground down bolts sat next to a 360 casing, with a sign saying "240 diff in a 360 casing for sale OMG!" next to it....but no evidence that the two could actually be combined, if memory serves correctly.
Is this guy in the US....as they never got 300s?
By all means try it, as I'm not sure anyone here has definitively proven it one way or the other yet...but don't throw a ton of money at it, as there's no proof it works, IIRC. I meant to take the axle off my scrap 240 for this very purpose, but ran out of time
cheers

Re: Project T5 360.
Yeah that's it.. There was what looked like wear from rubbing in the casing but it was never actually proven to run.
I suppose I could give it a go and if it doesn't fit I can just move it on or hang onto it for when I start doing the corona up since the USD is pretty much equal to the AUD it's only gonna be about $200 including shipping

Re: Project T5 360.
Well feel free to give it a go...just be aware that it might not have a happy outcome. I just didn't want you throwing a load of cash you're struggling to spare at something "someone on the internet" told you was a great idea, then being upset when it didn't work out....worst case scenario there, I know. On the other hand, it might work a treat and you're hailed as a hero

Re: Project T5 360.
Bad day..
I changed the clutch master cylinder in my daily driver today and realized I had no DOT3 fluid so I had to take the 360 to go get some.. Turns out they're not open 7 days a week so no fluid and when I got home the Volvo started pissing out coolant .
Now I have no car on the road and my mate who takes me to and from work has got a court hearing on Tuesday so he might be losing his license...
On the other hand though I ordered that Eaton G80. It was only $225 AUD so not too bad if it doesn't fit I'll just hang onto it until I start stripping the corona apart.

Re: Project T5 360.
Ok guys. Got my new diff on last Friday
Been a busy 2 weeks but I had her in the workshop on Saturday and managed to pull the diff out...
Results, as expected. Now I have a few months to figure out what to do and if it's even possible to fit it in.
As of news on the engine, none yet, per usual I haven't been contacted as I was promised. Getting pretty annoyed at the speed of which things are being sorted
I'll give them a call again next week and hope they have something other than "been busy" for me..
That is all for now I believe, here's a picture of the stickers I got made a while back
